Chapter 10: Meadow

1147 Words
“Meadow, Meadow, wake up.” Someone said, and I slowly opened my eyes. I looked out the window and saw that it was already morning. “What time is it?” I asked Jayden, who had woken me up. “It is 6 am.” I sat up in bed and glared at him. “Why did you wake me up so early?” I asked him, clearly annoyed. “Where were you yesterday?” He asked, ignoring my question. “I was out,” I replied. “I want you to stop going to those things, especially looking like a whore.” He said and I lost my mind. “How dare you call me that?” I shouted at him. “What do you want me to call you when you dress like that and kiss guys you are not even dating? What do you want me to call you when you reek of alcohol? What would you like me to call you when you sneak out through the window and return late at night? What?” He shouted back, and I felt bad but… “How did you know that?” I asked him, and he sighed. “I knew since the first time you started doing it. I followed you and Will, and I saw everything that happened over there. I was hoping you would tell me what you were up to, so I did not say anything. I followed you every time, except yesterday, because I had gone to a meeting with father. When I came back, I searched for you but I did not find you, so I knew that you were at that party. I covered up for you and even locked your door so that nobody could enter your room.” He said and then sank onto my bed. My twin had gone through so much for me, and I appreciated him. “I am sorry,” I told him while caressing his cheek. “I know that you are. I confronted you today because I was worried sick about you. I was not there yesterday to protect you, and I never want that to happen again, so please stop going to that place or go with me instead so I can be able to protect you properly.” I nodded. “I will allow you to come along with me,” I told him, and he shook his head in defeat before smiling. He gave me breakfast, and we ate together while he filled me in on what went down in the meeting. “My darling sister, I am telling you that the woman was insane. She arrived there and started beating her husband, calling him a cheater, and the poor guy could not defend himself. Everyone was ready to turn against that guy until his real wife appeared, so it turned out that the first woman was not the actual wife; she was drunk and mistook him for her husband.” I laughed at that. Jayden always tells me stories of the meetings they attend. “Poor guy received a beating for no reason.” We laughed. “Well, we did apologise and immediately ended the meeting.” That made me laugh even harder. I did not have my breakfast in peace because of Jayden. After we finished eating, Jayden suggested that we go and try to convince father to let us go to the human world, so we made our way downstairs and into father’s study. Father was a morning person. He woke up at five every morning, which could never be me. We knocked on the door, and we waited to be let in. We heard father’s booming voice letting us in. “My children.” He said. “Good morning, Father.” We bowed and then sat down. “Are you here to talk to me about going to the human realm?” He asked. “Yes, father,” I replied. “Well, do not bother about that. Fillan and Faesy have already talked to me about it. If you want to hear my decision, then you will have to wait for dinner time.” I knew I could count on those two. Yes, I did not know father’s decision yet, but Fillan and Faesy were persuasive, so I was hoping for the best. “Thank you, Father.” We both said bowing and then left the study room. It felt like time went by slowly so I took a nap. When dinner time came.I ran downstairs, and I was the first one at the dining table. When everyone came in, they were shocked to see me already there because I was always the last one, and Jayden smiled knowingly. “I have an announcement to make,” Father said as soon as everyone settled down, and we all went quiet. “I have decided to let Meadow go to the human realm.” He said. “Yes,” I shouted. “But on the condition that she goes with some of her brothers.” Father said. Fillan, Faesy, Jayden, Christopher, and Suki raised their hands. “Christopher, you are the oldest, so I do not think it is wise for you to leave the kingdom.” First mother said. “I know that mother, but Frank is here. We are twins, and I trust that he will look after things. I can not let my siblings out there on their own, so I will be there to protect all of them.” He said, and I smiled. “Well, my children are not going anywhere.” The second mother said. “We are no longer kids, mother, and we will do whatever we want,” Fillan said. “Very well then. The six of you will go to the human realm tomorrow, so I will organize everything for you over there. You do not even have to pack because the clothes in Melodia are not suitable for the human realm. You can go shopping when you arrive there.” Father said, and his words were final, so we ate dinner and made our way to our respective chambers. When I arrived in my room, I jumped up and down on top of my bed. I was so happy. Finally, I was going to see him. I wanted to sleep early today so that I could wake up energized tomorrow, so I immediately went to bed and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I was excited to go to the human realm, but I was also hoping that we wouldn't face any difficult challenges. Even though I was strong and brave, I felt anxious because it was the first time I was tasked with protecting someone. I literally had someone's life depending on me, which scared me a little.
