Chapter 8: Michael

When I got home, I ran to my room and then locked the door. I went to the mirror, and when I opened my mouth, I froze at what I saw. My canines were abnormally long. What was happening to me? I closed my eyes, hoping and praying that it was all a dream, but nope, it was all reality because my hands started changing and becoming claws, and my eyes became black. I screamed while backing away from the mirror. My door was thrown open, and I fell down, startled and frightened. “Michael, what’s wrong?” Austin asked from the door before fully coming in. When he saw me, he backed away. “Ooh no, it did not work.” He said and then ran out of my room. What did he mean by that? I wondered if maybe he knew what was happening to me. A minute later, everyone was there staring at me as if I were an animal at an exhibit. “Justin, take him to bed. Cassie, go and prepare some meat for him and the golden elixir, and I will call Willow; she will know what to do.” My mom gave out orders, but what was she talking about? I wanted to ask her, but I could not even open my mouth because of the shock. “Willow, hey, there is a problem.” My mom said on the phone, and then there was a pause. “The change has started. I thought that portion was going to prevent it from happening. Now my son is going to be in danger because the portion you gave me did not work.” She shouted at whoever Willow was. “Don’t you dare tell me to calm down. Don’t antagonize me. That monster will find my son if he completes his transformation, so get your ass here and do what you're supposed to do.” My mom shouted and then hung up. “How dare she tell me to calm down in this situation?” She said, pacing. I don’t know if she was talking to us or alone, but nobody answered her, my dad just embraced her, and she cried her eyes out, then they were disturbed by a strong wind in the room and then a short, petite woman appeared and yah that was the limit for me because at that moment I was enveloped by darkness. “There is nothing I can do at this point. The portion should have worked, but your son’s beast is extremely powerful and stronger than I realized. It may seem as though it’s tired of hiding and ready to come out into the world," someone whispered. “My son will die if that monster finds him. Is there nothing else you can do?” A voice that sounded like my dad said, so I guessed that it was him. “I have done all I could do right now. The medicine I gave him should be able to stop the transformation for at least a month, but he will still go through small changes, so it’s better to tell him the truth rather than keep him in the dark.” The woman said, and then there was silence. “What are we supposed to do after a month is over, then?” My mom asked, her voice trembling, and it sounded so small. “Someone is coming to protect him, don’t worry, and before you ask, she will find him and not the other way around.” The woman said, and then I drifted away from their conversation. I saw the lava monster, and I froze. “I am coming for you.” It said, pointing at me. The last thing I remember was screaming before someone shook me, and when I woke up, my mom and dad were looking at me, concerned. The woman had disappeared. “Where did that woman go?” I asked them. “She left; she didn’t even give us a permanent solution.” My mom said. “I know. I heard everything.” They looked at each other and then turned to me. “You are not supposed to hear us before you fully transform. We were communicating telepathically." I looked at her weirdly. What she had said didn't make sense, so I just walked to the bathroom. I shook my head and clapped while laughing. “Mom, you need help,” I said before closing the bathroom door. I freshened up, and when I was done, I went downstairs because I was starving. Moira ran to me and helped me to the table. “Are you okay?” Justin asked. “I’m good, just starving,” I told him, and Mom asked Cassie to go bring the things that she had prepared. Cassie put a full chicken and a glass on top of the table in front of me. I looked inside the glass, and there was a golden coloured liquid. ‘Are they trying to kill me or something?’ “What is this?” I asked. “Drink it, it’s going to help you restore your strength,” Austin said. “Okay? But what is it exactly?” I didn’t relent. “Drink it, Michael,” Dad said. “But Dad, how can I drink something that I don’t know?” “So, you don’t trust your family now, is that it?” Cassie asked. “I didn’t mean that, Yoh.” I drank the gold liquid before they ganged up on me. God knew I didn’t have the strength to fight. After I was done, I looked at all of them. “Are you happy now?” “Very.” My mom said. “After you are done eating, go up to your room and get some sleep." I nodded. I ate my meat and then went to bed. I wondered why they served me so much meat, but I felt really satisfied, so I was not complaining. I tried to sleep, but every time I closed my eyes, I saw the lava monster, so I gave up and made a group video call with my friends since there were so many messages. They all picked up except my girlfriend, Mae. I didn’t have the energy for her drama, so I just let it go. “Bruh, where have you been?” Marcus asked me. “I was feeling a bit under the weather, so I was resting,” I replied. “Your problems are many, Bruh,” Emmanuelle said. “What do you mean by that?” Melissa asked him. “He is sick, and his girl is busy with some dude.” “What are you talking about?” I asked him. “Well, Emmanuelle saw your girl being cozy with that Khwezi guy from school,” Nhle said, and I felt my heart crumbling into pieces. “I am going to kill that b***h. How dare she cheat on my best friend?” Melissa shouted, and I smiled a little at that. I had a crazy bestie, and I loved it. At that moment, my phone rang. “Guys, I will get back to you. The b***h is calling.” I said and they laughed. Honestly, I was hurt because I loved her, but I was waiting to hear her side of the story. All I knew was that I was not one to tolerate cheating. I didn’t cheat, and I didn't expect to be cheated on. “Sure, dude, but please listen to what she has to say first. I could have misunderstood the whole thing.” Emmanuelle said, and I nodded. “Sure,” I said before hanging up and answering Mae’s call. “Hello,” I answered. “How are you, babe. I know we saw each other today, but I miss you.” She said, and I rolled my eyes. “Ooh, really, in case you made a mistake, you called Michael instead of Khwezi,” I said. “W-what do you m-mean?” She stuttered. “I meant exactly what I said. I didn’t stutter.” I told her. “Can we meet and talk? I promise you I will tell you the truth.” She said. “I’m not feeling well. I will message you when I’m ready to talk to you.” I hung up the call and then went to sleep. So much for agreeing to listen to her first before jumping to conclusions, but the way she stuttered said a lot.
