Chapter 7:Michael

809 Words
A week had passed since the incident. Nothing eventful happened, which I was grateful for because I needed a break. I asked Mae on a lunch date, and that was what we were doing now. “You are so beautiful,” I told her for like the hundredth time now. She was beautiful; she was glowing. She wore a short yellow dress and simple gold sandals, and her hair was in a ponytail. “You said that already.” She said, giggling. “I know, but I can’t get enough of complimenting you,” I told her sincerely. “Thank you, and you are also handsome.” She said shyly while playing with her fork. “Thank you.” Since, today was our date, I made a little more effort in my appearance. I wore black jeans and a T-shirt and then put on my black sneakers. One could never go wrong with black; it was a beautiful and stylish color. “When are you going to tell me the real reason you came to my house that day?” I asked her, trying to break the silence because it was becoming too uncomfortable. It was like she still felt guilty about what happened to me a week ago, and I also could not stop thinking about her sudden visit to my house on that day. She dropped her fork on the table and then evaded my stare. “I already told you it was because I missed you; there was no other reason.” She said, still not looking at me. “Then why are you not looking at me? You are not the type to shy away from maintaining eye contact when having a conversation.” I questioned her. “Please excuse me, I’m going to the restroom.” She stood up and practically ran away from me. “Do I look like an i***t?” I said out loud, and a few people looked my way. “Of course, not darling. You look like a hot mess.” A hot lady who was sitting at the table across from me said, and I winked at her. She turned pink, and I grinned. I would not mind tapping that at all, but she looked way older than me, not that I minded; the only problem was the guy she was with, and I didn’t do married people. I shook my head so that I could get out of that frenzy. I’m not a cheater, and I was not going to start now. Mae was taking a while in the restroom, so I ordered a bottle of wine while waiting for her. When she finally decided to face me again, I was already on my second glass of wine. “Ooh, you ordered wine?” she asked, looking at me. She was trying to hide her nerves from me, but I could see her trembling like a tree on a windy day. I nodded. “Yeah, I needed it,” I told her. “Listen, if you don’t want to tell me the truth, then it's fine, don’t tell me. I will drop the whole thing,” I said. “Are you sure?” She asked. “Hundred percent,” I assured her. She smiled, and then we continued eating. The issue never came up again for the rest of our date; instead, we talked about school and the holiday trips we planned with our friends and families. It was just small talk, nothing serious, which was the norm for me and Mae. We never had deep conversations, and that started to make me wonder if she was the one for me. Of course, I loved her, but how could we maintain our relationship with only love? There were other factors to consider, like communication and trust. The communication was off, and I wasn’t sure I trusted Mae. She had changed so much, and that made me overthink at times. After our date, I drove her home. I got out of the car and walked her to the door. “Give me a kiss,” She pressed her lips to mine. Our lips moved in sync, and I let my hand wander while still kissing her. She matched my tempo, but all of a sudden, she pushed me away and touched her lips. I saw blood, but I could not understand what was happening. Where had the blood come from suddenly? “You bit me, Michael.” She shouted at me, but I still could not register what was happening. How could I have bitten her? “Stop shouting at me,” I told her, then ran to my car, leaving her standing at the door. I couldn’t think of anything else but getting away from her. I drove away without even looking back. I was freaking out.
