THE CRIMSON STAR, by Josh Maybrook

106 Words

THE CRIMSON STAR, by Josh MaybrookIts name or origin none could say; We looked up to sky one day And saw descending from afar A brightly shining crimson star. The sky above our town grew dark; No sun or moon remained to mark The passing time, and from on high The star gleamed like an evil eye. That very night all over town A madness dawned; men danced like clowns Through streets and alleys newly stained With blood where crimson terror reigned. Now that mayhem’s storm seems ended An eerie silence has descended; Survivors, moving slowly, stare Like mannequins into the air. Whatever final doom awaits We can’t escape this town; our fates Are carven on its bricks and stones And written on our very bones.
