Athena's POV
The walk was beautiful. Autumn leaves had fallen all around and crunched beneath our feet. It was a peaceful walk.
The trail led up to a mountain top look out. I had not been on this trail since I was young. My dad would take me on hikes all the time when I was growing up. I missed those days.
"Almost three weeks, Athena," Abaddon broke the silence.
"Three weeks for what?" I asked.
"Since I last saw or spoke to you. I kept wanting to see you. I waited," he explained.
"No you are very incorrect sir. It has only been a little under two weeks," I smile.
"No. I am almost sure it has been three," he furrowed his brow. It was cute.
"You are a horrible time keeper," I said giggling.
We walked up until the trail ended. Part of the trail had been washed away from years of rain. Abaddon climbed up and pulled me with him. We truly hiked from that point on.
At the top you could see all of the land around for miles. It was beautiful.
I could see the lake near my home, the diner below, and far in the distance the highway back to hell.
"Hearing or sight?" I asked Abaddon. This time he was the one confused. "Would you rather lose hearing or sight?" I asked.
He pondered on the question then took my hand in his. "That is a hard choice love. To lose sight I could not look into your beautiful eyes ever again. To lose my hearing means to never hear your sweet voice."
I could not help but smile.
Suddenly I had a cloud wash over me. He caught the scent of my fear. I tried to push it away. I tried to pull my hand away.
"I don't know who hurt you before, but it will never happen again. I will keep you safe my moon," he said staring into my eyes.
I felt the truth in his words.
He placed his hands on either side of my face and pressed his lips into mine. I was shocked at first, but my lips knew what they wanted. Parting to give him access to my mouth. He explored every part.
He pulled away to breathe leaving me wanting more. My body shivered from the space between us. I craved his warmth, craved his kiss and touch.
How was it possible a man could truly make me feel this way. My legs wobbling and shaking. I had to sit.
We sat next to each other as the sun began to set. Then realization hit me. I stood up quickly and so did Abaddon.
"I missed the meeting. My mother is going to murder me!" I said frantically.
"What meeting," Abaddon asked.
"With the elders. I will never get answers now," I began walking away.
Abaddon stopped me, " I can get you a new meeting. I am an alpha after all. And they'll want to know you are my mate."
"Why would they?"
"We are not the same shifters. It's unheard of that we would mate," he explained.
"I am not just a shifter either."
"Even more reason to tell them. You're a hybrid. They will want to meet you," he smiled at me.
I nodded in relief.
"I will arrange it," he said while wrapping his arms around me. An embrace I welcomed openly.
We sat back down to watch the rest of the sunset. As the sky dimmed the light below glistened. The cool air blew all around us but I didn't shiver. Abaddon's warmth was enough.
"Interesting that we meet again and have our first date tonight,"Abaddon whispered into my ear. He then pointed up toward the full moon above us. Beautifully gleaming above.
How right he was.
"Only one thing can make this better," I said. He raised a brow.
I only got up and walked behind some bushes. As if he understood me he walked behind some trees.
I stood there peering out to catch a glimpse of his transformation. I did not know what to do. How was I suppose to shift?
"Let me take it from here," Azriel spoke to me.
I nodded and let go. I could feel myself falling back and Azriel coming forward. Everything that happened next was like movie.
Azriel's POV
I slipped forward taking control. Everything Athena experienced was an experience for me as well, but like being on autopilot. I felt bad that she would now experience this. I was use to the confinement of the mind, she was not. I would make sure this was a shorted shift.
I felt my bones break and move as the claws extended from my finger tips. Fur grew on every inch of my body. Most painfully, my head began to pound and then my back gave a loud pop. Pain consumed my naked body.
Tears barreled down my face. Through the wetness I saw a large black wolf coming toward me. I screamed out as a loud crack echoed through my head.
Then silence.
It was over. No more pain, no more noise. Nothingness. Was I dead?
I felt the nudge of a wet nose and slowly opened my eyes. The wolf was whimpering. I slowly stood to all fours. The wolf wagged his tail excitedly. I shook my fur out.
He then tilted his head for me to follow. He was fast. I wasn't about to let this crazy wolf beat me.
I ran faster. Bounced over a log and dashed past him. I felt free. We slowed to an easy speed and stopped just before a small pond.
I took a good look at this wolf. He was huge compared to my small fox frame. He was fully black with a golden triangle of fluff on his chest and up the bridge of his nose. He was beautiful.
He golden eyes gestured for me to look into the water. I stepped forward.
Looking down I saw myself. Reddish orange fur, pointer nose, fluffy fox tail. I had deep blue eyes. There was blue on my chest in a triangle, on my face was a blue V-shape and dots. The blue seemed to glow along with my eyes. I was beautiful.
We left the lake and headed to his pack house. Athena was going to be pissed, I left her clothes behind.
As if the pack knew, a set of cloths were set on a stone near where we had stopped to shift. Thank goddess.
I allowed Athena to come forward again before shifting back.
Athena's POV
The shift to fox was unbearable and now I had to shift back. I felt the bones on my body shifting but the pain was not as bad.
I placed the clothes on and walked to the front door to meet Abaddon.
I was ready to see my little man. I missed him so much already.
As we walked into the huge doors, we could hear snoring rumbling through the living room. My son, two little girls, Darien, and another man were all asleep on the oversized couch.
"They passed out about an hour ago. I haven't the heart to wake them," Stella said from a doorway.
I smiled and we followed her into a kitchen. The kitchen was the size of a ballroom. Stella poured us a glass of wine each and was sat.
I stared at the drink. I had never been drunk before, no matter how much I drank, but this drink did not smell like normal wine.
"Wolvesbane. Enough to help you get drunk but not kill you," Stella said.
I took a sip. Cautious of the effects. Stella let out a laugh. I drank the wine a little more. Not half bad.
"Okay. Not getting my mate drunk on her first night here," Abaddon sternly spoke to Stella.
"Joy kill," she said and left.
"Well, I better wake Alek and head home," I said to Abaddon.
"You are welcome to stay here. As my mate and the future Luna of my pack, my home is yours," he said gesturing at the house.
"Oh. Thank you, but I need to go or my mother will come here to murder me," I laughed.
"The offer still stands," he said.
I gathered Aleksandr into my arms and then remembered. My car was still at the diner.
As if on cue Abaddon nodded for me to follow him.
I followed him to a large bedroom with a huge bed. The room was painted a soft yellow and white. The bed had soft black blankets and huge fluffy pillows.
I laid Aleksandr down and walked over to Abaddon. "Well thank you for letting us stay," I said.
"Your home now too," was all he said. He left closing the door.
I walked over and sank into the bed next to Aleksandr. Falling fast into dream land.
