Eleusia sprang to her feet when she felt Tom’s foot leave her back and fell on the leader, her longsword flashing wickedly in the evening light as it sliced the air. Tom managed to parry the blade, but was forced back by the hail of blows that Eleusia sent in his direction. ‘Keep your shield up,’ Antauros roared at Torben as he caught sight of the young man squaring up a thug, desperately jabbing the air with his spear, trying to deter the man from attacking. The thug picked the right moment, dodged past Torben’s spear, and shoulder-barged him, sending him sprawling to the ground. Torben yanked the shield back over his body in time to protect his torso from the man’s attack.
