The evening was over already. The men returned with a deer. Emily didn't want to think too deeply about how they had gotten a deer from a private island hunt. She just blended in. Most of the processing was done by the island workers who lived by the beach. They came around and helped in preparing the deer, except for the cooking —Mary made sure she was the one who did the real cooking. Emily was now alone in the kitchen, doing the dishes. Finding it hard to still understand why Mary wouldn't allow her staff to do the kitchen duties for her. "I see you are fitting in," Edward said, bringing his own plates. They've not been able to speak since he got back. Not like it mattered. It was not like she knew what to say. But she sure felt like she should say something to him. Something like,
