Chapter 4. Bringing Her Home

1785 Words
Zane Watching Elia leave was painful. River nearly took over to follow, especially after the unnamed male followed. We could hear some laughing fade, but that was about it. "Listen son," the new(?) alpha said, calling my attention. "Elia is my dear niece, which means if I hear one bad word, I will not hesitate to bring your pack down with the fury of ten. Am I understood?" Alpha James questions, his voice low with a clear threat implied. "And don't think I won't be the first to be there. That's my daughter," the other man says. I hold back the urge to roll my eyes and settle for just nodding instead. Elia's ex, Justin, is glaring at me intently as the male that left with her returns. The three men look over at him as he bows his head slightly. "Alphas, Sir... I have a request," he says. He seems a bit nervous if you ask me, but it's hard to tell. "What is it Daniel?" Justin demands. It seems he doesn't like this guy hanging around Elia, which makes me wonder why. I'll have to ask her about him later. Daniel straightens, "I would like to transfer to Alpha Zane's pack with Elia. I thought it would put your minds at ease to have someone you know with her, and help her as well." Alpha James and her father seem to be considering his request before they look at me. "I will allow it. Is that alright with you?" James asks me. 'No! We will not hurt our mate and we will not let any male be with her!! Tell them no!' River yells. I don't think having him with us would benefit my pack at all, and he seems to be close to Elia with the way he smiled at her earlier. She seemed relieved he was there. "It's fine with me. He can be her personal guard," I announce. Daniel smiles and nods his head towards me. "Of course, you'll have to prove yourself better than my gamma..." A smirk finds it's way to my face and he nods again. "Then it's settled! Elia and Daniel will be leaving with you today," her dad says. Daniel nods and walks off. James sighs a little and rubs his face before a young woman storms in with tears on her face. She was tall and blonde and stick thin almost with blue eyes. There was jewelry on her neck and wrists and a huge diamond ring on her finger. "Justin!! What was that feeling? I'm not supposed to be hurt, I'm the Luna! Do you have idea what happened?!" Justin softens and goes to her side immediately. "It's Elia. She and her boy toy accused me of trying to hurt her and Dad demoted me," he lies. Fury rolls off of her and she looks at James and then Elia's father. "What?! He can't do that to us!!" she shrieks. James stands up, slamming his hands on the desk. "Like hell I can't! Now get out before I make you an omega!!!" he shouted. The woman stiffened and ran out almost as quickly as she ran in. As the door opens, I smell her. Lavender wafts from the door and I smile a little knowing she's listening even if she's masked her presence. The others don't seem to notice so I don't say anything. "I swear that girl will be the ruin of this pack," Elia's father says. James grunts in agreement. "No wonder Elia passed up being beta when she turned 18." He looks right at Justin as he says this. Justin cowers under his gaze and looks away. "Wait, she's was a beta?" I ask, looking at the others in the room. The older two nod and Justin says nothing. "Technically by roles, she still is. She never got officially demoted. Her father was my beta and because she was his only child, she got trained to take over his duties. On her birthday, it was revealed Justin was her fated mate. Ezekiel and I had been talking about where to put her since she'd also trained as a warrior," James explains. I nod along, following and trying to imagine my mate on her birthday, desperately wishing I'd been there to see her. Her father, Ezekiel, rubbed his face, not trying to hide the discontent of the memories. "She was dazzling in her sapphire blue dress and I damn near had to beat away the unmated males from her." He growled. "She disappeared for a few minutes and no one could find her. Then Justin came back looking like he was in excruciating pain. Elia returned a little while after and then were tears in her eyes," he adds on. I can feel River growing restless. My eyes cut over to Justin for a second before going back to the men before me. "It wasn't hard to figure out once of them had rejected the other. Afterwards, I found out who it was. I damn near beat the boy to death. Elia is a good girl. She's strong, kind and caring. The perfect Luna really, and he passed her up for Serra. She may be my daughter too, but she's spoiled. I have no clue where I went wrong raising her..." Before either could continue, there was a knock at the door and Elia came in with a couple bags on her arms and a suitcase. I could feel the turmoil brewing inside as she smiled. Daniel was right behind her. I stood and I could see her tense up and paused. "I'm, I'm ready to go now, Father. Alpha James," Elia says. They nod and stand up to hug her goodbye. "Stay safe darling, alright? Don't forget to call me or I'm coming to take you home right away!" her father says, hugging her tightly. I can see that she doesn't want to let go, but does anyways. The Alpha hugs her too without a word. They shake my hand as well before we head out. Gabe is already there waiting with the car and Killian opens the backseat for me and Elia, before his head snaps up as Daniel exits the building as well. Surprise is clear on both their faces. "Mate," I hear from them. Elia gasps and looks at Daniel before jumping up and down, giggling. I can't help but looking at her chest as it bounces and internally groan and the idea of seeing them bounce as I make her mine. "But wait... weren't you both on the field? Why didn't you sniff each other out before?" she asks as Daniel's face turns pink and shrugs his shoulders. "I dunno, but that may have been your fault E. Your scent was everywhere. I almost couldn't tell who was who it was so strong. Then that spectacle Artemis put on was pretty distracting," he says matter of factly. Now it's her turn to blush, but it quickly fades and she clears her throat. "Alright, good for you two. You found your mates. Can we please get home?" Gabe pleads as he steps out the driver's seat, staring at us. Killian rolls his eyes, taking them off Daniel for the first time. "You're just mad you haven't found your mate yet," I say and put Elia into the car and slide in after her. Gabe grunts something I can't make out, even with wolf hearing. He grabs the bags and puts them in the trunk. I swear out of the corner of my eye I see Killian and Daniel holding hands, but it might've just been trick of the light because when I turn my full attention to them, Daniel seems hesitant to be near Killian at all. Both males get in the car with Killian up front with Gabe driving and Daniel with us in the back. He took to sitting on the other side of Elia and staring out the window, though his eyes dart to the front seat every now and then. "I'm squished," Elia mutters, wiggling a little her leg touching mine and sending sparks through the bond. Daniel shifts to angle himself away from her and give her some space, but it doesn't help much. River takes over for a second and picks our little mate up and places her on our lap. She lets out a squeak and shifts her weight. "You belong there," I whisper, making her face turn red. After a few hours of driving, a painful ride with Elia riding in my lap with every little bump making her bounce against me and making it hard to keep my hands off her, do I finally see our packhouse coming into view. "Home sweet home," Gabe announces as he turns into the circular drive. Elia stares out the window for a while, saying nothing but the amazement on her face is clear as day. She bites her lip and glances at me before climbing out of the car. Austin, my Delta, is already outside and grabbing the things from the trunk as I get out as well. "I knew we were bringing the Luna home, but who's the extra?" he asks nodding towards Daniel. "Her personal guard," I state. Austin looks him up and down before Killian is in front of him, teeth barred. "Oh, and Killian's mate." Austin raises an eyebrow and takes in the gamma male's reaction before nodding and backing up. "Right... anyways, be careful. Your mom heard about you bringing your mate back and might've overreacted a little," Austin warns. I know my mom and if she overreacted a little, it means the packhouse is full of people waiting for us to enter. Elia seems extremely uncomfortable but I can only tell through the mate bond, the look on her face shows nothing but curiosity. She'll make a wonderful Luna. "Right," I finally reply and grab Elia's hand and she looks up at me, a bit of panic flooding her eyes. "You'll be with me. No need to worry." I bring her hand up to my lips and kiss the back of her smooth hand and then her palm, making her cheeks turn pink. She nods, but doesn't say anything else and we walk up to the front door. Gabe and Austin grab the doors and Gabe smiles at her. "Welcome home little Luna," he says before opening the door. I'm not really one for being surprised when it comes to my mother, but even my jaw drops when I see what's inside the packhouse. "Oh!! Zane! You're home!" a voice says from my right. I turn to look before I'm met with a bear hug.
