Elia
The drive to Zane's house was long, and I swear I could feel a bulge in his shorts the whole way there. The electrifying sparks were driving me and Artemis crazy. She kept trying to take over and let him mate us in the car, but I refused. It took every ounce of willpower I had to keep her restrained. I swear the driver was purposely hitting every pothole and bump on the road because there was a slight smirk on his face the entire time, especially when I came off of Zane's lap and fell back down.
When we pull into his pack lands, I feel like I'm crossing through a membrane or something. Daniel feels it too as he shivers some and shakes his body to probably get rid of the feeling. 'How does it feel to be mated?' I inquire. I see a blush start to form on his face and have to refrain from letting out a laugh.
'Theo is ecstatic, I'm surprised. I didn't think the Moon Goddess would send me a male mate,' he confesses. I shift my weight a little to hold his hand. He squeezes mine, and I smile. 'I guessed for a while now I wasn't straight, but I wasn't sure. And after this, I'm sure of it. I'm just not sure how he'll accept me...'
That was a valid fear. I, too, am terrified of how Zane will accept me. He already knows about what happened between me and Justin, but I've met so many self-centered alphas in my time. What if he's the same? Will he reject me, too? But why would he take me to his lands if he was going to leave me mateless?
Question after question swirls in my brain until we come to a stop. I look out the window, and my jaw nearly falls off my face. His packhouse was a castle compared to ours back home. The lawn is manicured with such precision it looks fake. The hedges around the driveway look neatly maintained, and the stone of the house makes it seem old but enchanted as well. There were vines on the side that looked like they'd been purposely placed there, but they weren't out of control.
I couldn't help but stare for a second before glancing at Zane, who was studying my reaction. I bite my lip and quickly climb out. Artemis whimpers in my head, wanting to be close to him again. A tall male with broad shoulders, platinum blonde hair, freckles, fair skin, and green eyes stands there. He smiles at me as he grabs me and Daniel's bags from the trunk. "I knew we were bringing the Luna home, but who's the extra?" he asks, nodding at Daniel, who stands a little closer to me.
"Her guard," Zane responds. My head turns to face the guys standing behind me as excitement bubbles up, and it's all I can do not to jump for joy. The one with the bags starts looking at Daniel, scrutinizing him before his mate, a smaller male with dark hair and brown eyes and a more chocolate tone to his skin is in front of the bag holder. "Oh, and Killian's mate."
'Seems like he's accepted you as a mate already. How are you feeling?' I ask Daniel. He turns red for a second but doesn't answer. This is a new side of him. Normally, he's a chatterbox that doesn't shut up, but now he's about as quiet as Winston was back at home.
"Right... anyways, be careful. Your mom heard you were bringing your mate home and might've overreacted," the bag holder says. The way he says it makes me feel like my mother-in-law is going to hate me. Panic starts to find its way in and blocks out everything.
I knew I should've rejected him when I saw him. Even if it hurt, I still should've! How could anyone expect me to stay here? I could deal with Justin's crap since I've known him forever, or I thought I had. But Zane isn't Justin. What if he's worse? What if-
Sparks and tingles run up my arm as I look to see Zane grab my hand and bring it to his lips to kiss it. He gives me a gentle smile. "You'll be with me. No need to worry," he assures. The calm in his voice shuts down the anxiety that was eating away at me. I nod a little, and he takes me up to the door where our driver and the other guy have grabbed the handles of the French doors and opened them.
"Welcome home, little Luna," the driver says with a smile. I look inside and I can't help it. My jaw drops as I stare at the immaculate decor that somehow ends up in my favorite colors. There were splashes of purple, blue, and white everywhere that made it seem like a huge celebration.
A banner was hung on the opposite side of the door that read, 'Welcome home Luna Elia', which surprised me more than anything. To my right, I hear a squeal and see a woman with her black hair and blue eyes barreling towards us and wraps Zane in a hug. "Zane! You're home!!" she says.
Jealousy washes over, and before I can tell her to get her paws off my mate, she kisses his forehead, and people come out from everywhere. "SURPRISE!!!" they shout. How did I not smell them?
"Mom... did you have to tell the whole pack?" Zane groans. The woman nods eagerly, and he sighs. His grip on my hand tightens a little, and I squeeze back. Parties make me nervous now, which is why I tend to avoid them unless they're mandatory ceremonies.
Turning back to the crowd, curious faces meet mine as a female walks over. Her hair is a mop of fiery red curls, her slightly pale face with rosy cheeks and a huge grin. "So you're the one that stole the heart of our big bad alpha?" she says. I nod a little, slightly reminded of Serra. "Thank the Goddess! You have no idea how insufferable it has been. Tame him in any way you can!"
"Austin! Get your mate!!" Zane yells to the one who grabbed my things. He nods and comes up, grabbing the redhead by the waist, our bags suddenly gone.
"C'mon Sadie. I don't need him trying to murder both of us," Austin says and walks away with her. The driver laughs and disappears into the crowd. His mom shakes her head at the interaction and walks over to me. Her aura just radiates kindness that reminds me of my mother, a pain I'd rather forget.
"Hi dear, I'm Monica, Zane's mom. You can call me Mom or Mother if you wish! Just don't call me Luna. You're family now," she gushes. A laugh escapes me, and a warm smile spreads across her face. "Come, come! Meet everyone!!"
She drags me away into the crowd, and my hand slips from Zane's. Monica seems nice enough that I feel okay. She pulls me to a group of shabby men and women who seem very meek and small, and I recognize them instantly as omegas. The poor things. One has a very pregnant belly, and my heart hurts for her. As we approach their heads hang low. "Greetings, Luna Monica and Luna Elia," they say in unison.
"Lift your heads." The words leave my lips before I can even think about the repercussions. Their eyes dart around nervously before one brave soul does as I ask. Conversations around me stop, and I hold out my hand to the brave omega. I can see the hesitation on his face as he places his hand in mine.
His memories bleed into my brain in flashes, and I heard him gasp. A life of pain and torture, cast out from his previous pack because one of the ranked females got caught using him for her desires. I pull my hand away and tears are running down his face. "I-I'm sorry," he starts but I pull him into a hug.
"You're safe here Orion," I whisper. He doesn't move and I can sense Zane behind me, anger seeping through the bond. Before he can say or do anything I pull away from the omega and look at the others. "You're all safe here. I promise and give my word."
Zane pulls me into his chest and leans to whisper in my ear, making my body shiver from his hot breath. "You know you're not officially the Luna, right?" I nod and he just seems even more confused.
"But you don't know the things they've been through. Things they've been forced to put up with just for a place to call home... As an alpha heir, you don't have to worry about that, especially as a male," I whisper back. He stares at me and I turn to stare back. He sighs and just kisses my forehead I can't help but smile a little.
"If you say so," he says. Monica seemed pleased with the outcome and smiled at me.
"You'll make a wonderful Luna," she says to me. An awkward smile finds its way to my face and Monica loops her arm through mine and whisks me away to meet more people. So many names flew through my ears and I wasn't sure I would remember them all. Zane went with me this time which made me feel a little relaxed.
No one stopped her though, so I guess everyone wanted to see how I would react to this situation. "Oh, you must be Zane's mate," a woman says. I nod a little, trying to keep smiling. My cheeks were starting to hurt. "How could the Goddess pair him with someone like you? I heard you're nothing more than a filthy warrior." A sly smile forms on her lips as whispers flood the room.
I stand there and blink. All of a sudden, Daniel is by my side as well as Killian, Gabriel, and Austin. Zane and them move in to handle the woman, but I hold up my hand. Monica watches me from the corner of my eye. "Even if I was a warrior, what makes you think I can't be mated to an alpha? Because in fact, I was in position for taking over as head warrior I was that damn good. And for the record, you don't even know me. I would greatly appreciate it if you learned a few more things than what someone has probably told you," I calmly say, loud enough for anyone to hear.
"Oh yeah? And what happens if I don't then?" she asked, her eyes full of malice.
"Then you'll have to learn the hard way why the head warrior chose to train me personally," I state, feeling a bit of power surge through my body. She narrows her eyes at me before flipping her hair and walking away. "Besides, my position as a warrior was nothing more than a formality. I'm actually a beta."
She doesn't seem to hear me as she keeps walking, but with werewolf hearing, I know she did. Zane looks at me and kisses my temple, making Artemis howl with delight. I smile a little as my cheeks start to feel warm. "You know, I thought a blushing bride was just a saying," Daniel says next to me, no doubt trying to tease me.
I stick my tongue out at him and the rest of the party goes without another incident, to which I was eternally grateful.
After being shown to my room, which also happened to be Zane's, the pregnant omega from before entered. Her head was bowed out of respect for our rank difference.
"E-excuse me, Luna Elia. B-but... I need your assistance," she stutters. I smile softly at her and walk to her, lifting her chin so her eyes meet mine.
"Yes?"
"It's my baby... can you help them?"
