Chapter 10. Babies!

1938 Words
Zane Leaving Elia after lunch was maybe one of the hardest things I had to do so far. I sit in my office and stare at my computer as my hand drifts up to the spot on my neck where she marked me. Tingles shoot through my body as my fingers graze the spot and I shiver. The door opens and Gabe walks in again, throwing himself on my couch, groaning. "What now?" I ask, glaring at him. He sits up and goes to speak before his eyes seem to zero in on my neck. "No. Effing. Way. She marked you?!" he exclaims. I nod and his excitement seems palpable as his eyes glaze over as he zones out and links someone and soon, Killian and Austin join us in my office. "Yeah, sure, come on in. It's a party..." I mumble sarcastically. The guys get closer, looking at my neck before Austin reaches out to touch it. "You do that and you'll be missing a hand-" He smiles awkwardly and retracts his arm. "Is she marked yet?" he questions. I shake my head and he laughs, looking at Gabe. "I told you! Pay up, now. C'mon..." Gabe groans and reaches into his pocket, pulling out his wallet and handing Austin $20. I raise my eyebrows and Killian rolls his eyes. "They made a bet. Austin said she'd mark you first, Gabe said you'd mark her or it would happen at the same time," he explains. I shake my head before staring at the computer again. It had been at least 3 hours and I'm still no further than I was when I left for lunch. I look at the clock and it had only been an hour. A groan escapes and I bury my head in my hands before hitting it against the desk. "You good?" I hear Gabe ask, concern in his voice. I raise my head and look at the door which is still wide open. Killian goes to close it and I sigh. "Yes and no. Yeah because I found my mate and my spot bears her mark, but no because I know she's not fully ready to complete it yet. It's not like I'm angry she's not ready, I completely understand on that front. From what I heard about the mate that rejected her, it makes sense why she seems so... skittish about it," I confide. The guys nod and take seats around the desk as I hold my head in my hands. "So uh... what exactly did happen?" Austin asks. I ponder for a moment before deciding to inform them. "Her ex-mate rejected her on her 18th birthday. They were friends until he decided that her adoptive sister was a better mate choice. I've seen the woman and even if I had never met Elia, I wouldn't like her..." Gabe snickers for a second and I look at him and he shakes his head. "That's not all of it though. She's a beta-born and the only child it seems to her parents. If she hadn't found her mate in the Alpha heir, she would've been beta instead," I tell them. Austin looks like a light bulb has just gone off in his head. "That explains what she told Delilah yesterday! She said she was a beta but chose to be a warrior. She really rejected being beta to be a warrior?" he asks, seeming as confused as the others. I nod my head. "I don't know the full story as of yet, but yes. That is indeed what it seems so far. And the previous now current Alpha seemed to be like an uncle to her, so I don't think he felt snubbed at all by her rejection considering he told me she was never officially demoted." Before anyone can say anything else, there's a knock on the door and Sadie pokes her head in. "Alpha? Your mate and the doctor wish to see you," she informs. I stand up and follow her up to a nursery that I didn't know was there. They must've done this after breakfast. When I get there, Elia is holding the baby girl while Daniel is with one of the boys. Elia looks up at me as the doctor hands over the other boy. "I was needed?" "Yes. Apparently, the babies are not beta-born as we thought. They are alphas in the making," Sara, the doctor informs. My brows knit together in confusion as my mate chuckles. "Yes I know, it's hard to believe. But the thing is, whoever the omega slept with was either lying about their position, or they were descended from a line of alphas that has been lost so to speak due to a pack acquisition or a blending of packs due to a male and female Alpha being mated or choosing to be mates." "Oh wow..." Elia nods her head at me and smiles softly. "So will there be an issue with us raising them?" I ask Sara. "The only one I could see is with any children of your own you have," she states. "The triplets may grow up and believe that because they were adopted by you first, they should inherit the pack, but your biological first child might say that because they are directly related, they should. There's been a history of this, but only a few times and long ago." I look down at the baby boy I was holding and he smiles at me, a soft noise leaving his mouth. My heart melted instantly and I glanced at Elia to see her watching my expression with a look of laughter. I look at the baby again and he sneezes. A light laugh escapes me and I put my finger in his hand, which he grabs hold of tightly. 'Call the Elders... I want to draw up a law of sorts,' I link to Gabe. His affirmative comes back before I sit down in a chair. "Are you in love?" Elia asks. I nod, smiling. "You know we have to name them. I got their only their first names from their mother though. The boy your holding was born second. She named him Alex and his older brother is Ethan. Their sister is Iris. But they don't have middle names." My gaze hesitantly drifts up to her as I think to come up with suitable middle names for them. "What about... Alex Tyler and Ethan Taylor? As for Iris... Ariane?" I suggest. Elia's face softens. "I love them. And they'll take your last name of course," she says. I nod. "If... we have a daughter of our own..." She bites her lip, looking slightly hesitant. "Can we name her Elaine?" "Of course my love. Any particular reason?" Elia's eyes water before tears start falling down her face. "That was her mother's name," Daniel whispers. I'd forgotten he was here until he spoke. Sadie takes Alex from me as Daniel takes Iris from Elia. I stand up and walk over, pulling her to her feet and wrapping my arms around her. I can slightly feel how hurt she is and it makes me feel horrible. The door closes and I hold her tighter, letting her cry on my shoulder for the second time today. I hated that. She shouldn't ever have to cry. "It'll be alright, Lia. I'm here... I won't leave you, I swear," I promise. I feel her relax in my arms slightly as she looks up at me. I cup her face with my hands and kiss her, my eyes closing. The bond sparks to life even more and she gasps a little. Her hands clutch my shirt and I nip at her bottom lip, making her part them for me. My tongue presses on, exploring and tasting her as our mouths move in sync. I can smell her tears and feel them on my hands as they keep falling down her face. She pulls away after a few seconds and I press my forehead to hers, opening my eyes and looking at her. "They found who killed my parents and kidnapped me, but they were just soldiers. Enforcers. The people behind it weren't ever found," she whispers to me. I would bet my bottom dollar that they would be coming for her again. "Even if I did have powers because I look like those supposedly descended from the Goddess, nothing has ever happened. I've done countless hours of research and tried the documented powers and abilities. I couldn't do even one of them." She looks at me and lays on my chest. "We can look into it some more, my love." I hold her for a few more minutes before she pulls away. A knock comes from the door and I open it to reveal an elder there. "You wanted to see us?" he asks. I nod. "About what exactly?" "The triplets. I want a law that will allow them to inherit the pack, should they wish. And if they are deemed as unfit due to any reason such as crimes committed like r**e or murder, then the pack should pass to the first biological child between me and Elia," I state. The elder looks at me, studying my face. "Alright. That seems reasonable. I'll have it written in. It should be ready by the end of the week," he says. I turn to look at Elia who just smiles softly. "I meant to ask yesterday, but will she need Luna training?" "No, I'll be fine. My mother worked closely with the Luna from my old pack. I was around her a lot growing up. I know a Luna's position is like being the mother of the pack to nurture her people as the Alpha provides and protects. She organizes things to help her pack such as mating balls, charities, and such," Elia says. The elder seems pleasantly surprised, but smiles at her and leaves out. "Well, I guess that's that. Not every day you meet a Luna that has a handle on her duties without training," I grin. She rolls her eyes at me. "I read a lot of history in school and Luna Veronica taught me a bit. She knew that there was a chance that I would be mated to an alpha when I turned of age. My mother knew I could also be mated to another beta so she prepared me for that possibility. I kept up with both along with warrior training. Luma Veronica helped on that front. For any answers I got wrong, I would have to take 5 laps around the packhouse." I raise my eyebrows and she laughs at me. "Well then. If I ever see her, I will need to thank her," I laugh with her. We keep laughing and talking until we hear a crash, a scream, and a wail. Elia stiffens before she's out the door and sprinting down the stairs. I follow her and when we reach the living room, the sight before us makes my blood absolutely boil. Daniel was on the floor, clutching Ethan to his chest. His arm was bleeding as he fell on the coffee table and a piece of the wood pierced it. Ethan was crying and it seems Sadie was the one that screamed. Delilah stood there with a scared expression on her face. "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?" I shout, feeling my aura radiating from me. Elia had stopped in her tracks and looked at the scene before her as her hair begins glowing. I feel the temperature drop and I look at her. "You. B***h..."
