EPISODE TWENTY ONE

Garba clicked on the icon of the application with the name “Cross My Mind” to see what kind of application it is and why MEDULLA took its time to make and embed it in the new upgraded operating system it has give him.

The application opened up with a lot of codes and options for Garba to try. But a new window with information about the application and how to use it suddenly pops up. The window explains that the application has been designed to have multiple functions such as easy virtual texting, virtual calls, connecting virtual mind spaces but the main feature of the application is to allow two consenting Neuraface users to switch consciousness with MEDULLA’s help.

When Garba finished reading the description, he was confused. “isn’t this useless if I can’t connect with MEDULLA?” he thought and although he knows that if the application work, with his knowledge of chess and improved cognitive abilities he could beat Carson with a few moves. So he started exploring the options for initiating the link up of the Neuraface one after another.

The first thing needed to start up a link between two different Neuraface users is the identity module number unique to every single Neuraface. Each Neuraface was made with this unique number which functions as the equivalent of a phone’s IP address. This unique number is the identity of each individual Neuraface and is needed for the linking up and crossing of minds.

Garba immediately realized that he is in another pickle, he does not know Mila's Identify module number and has no idea how to get it since he cannot communicate with her virtually because the team chat system was taken down and the rules of the game also requires all other pieces to not communicate with the king. If he so much as try to talk to Mila, he may not be so lucky to avoid the spikes this time.

Just when Garba is lost in these thoughts, he heard Mila call out to him.

“Garba knight one, move to position D2” and a timer pops out in his vision counting down from five minutes. Frustrated as he is by the sudden move, he only realised what was actually going on after he moves to position D2 that Carson initially has a knight about to kill him in his next move. He then turns around to give Mila a thank you smile but when he saw her, the smile on his face faded into a sad expression.

Mila was standing in her spot with her legs shaking and eyes full of sorrow yet, she is still focused on making sure she plays the game right not only to win, but to make sure that many of the pieces on her team survive to the end of the game. On the other hand, Carson who has lost his two rooks because of his reckless attacks has not learned from his mistake and has brought out all his elite pieces forward with the exception of himself the king.

“Mila must be doing her best to survive even though she doesn’t know that this is not a game, why am I hesitating to try all possible methods to help our survival?” Garba thought and opens The Cross my mind application, he goes to where he is supposed to input Mila’s identity module number and starts to think again and again for any visual cue or recollection of any sort of number that may have been the correct number.

“No need to strain your mind this much, it is a number even I didn’t know until recently” MEDULLA’s voice said and Garba almost jumped out of excitement.

“you are right on time MEDULLA. We are in a pickle right here, I need to takeover from Mila by crossing minds with her, can it be done?” Garba quickly responded.

“Of course! But we are going to need some time to establish my connection, and even more time to establish the connection between your Neuraface and hers.” MEDULLA responded.

Carson moves his bishop from far and have it stab and kill one of Mila’s rooks. Mila moved out her second knight and take the Carson’s Bishop, without realizing she is supposed to move Garba out of the way or he will be killed by one of Carson’s pawns. In Carson’s next move, he attacked Garba using the pawn and Garba has to depend himself against this pawn who would be using a dagger.

The player who is Carson’s pawn piece looks scared because in body mass, it is obvious that Garba would be stronger but the player also looks confident in himself because of the advantage of holding his weapon that he has. He pulls the knife and approached Garba with a facial expression on his face that says I really don’t want to hurt anybody but I have to since if I don’t I will be shot down by the armed guards or dropped down. He took a jab at Garba with a half hearted motion and of course Garba effortlessly dodged it and punched the player right on his nose and instantly breaking it. With a bleeding nose, the player now changed the knife to his other hand and start attacking Garba overwhelmingly. Garba managed to dodge a few of the attacks, getting shallow cuts in his hands and shoulders before he finally managed to get a hold of the dagger by it’s handle.

He pulled out the knife from the player’s hand and quickly stabbed him on the neck in an attempt to give the guy a quick death. The player fell from Garba’s hands on the floor and just like the players who die before him, as soon as Garba moved to the next spot, the entire square slides sideways, making the dead body fall into a pit that appears to be exactly beneath the entire chess court which is covered by a thick bulletproof glass cube.

“You need to hurry”, Garba said to MEDULLA as he turns back to see Mila in still on her step shedding tears for the responsibility she is carrying.

“I am trying” MEDULLA responded.

MEDULLA has successfully connected to Garba’s Neuraface but the connection is not stable, Reece and Ababio are standing in front of one monitor and watching as MEDULLA sets up a new method of connection that neither of them are aware of.

“In order for the data to be relayed to this computer right here, I need time to stabilize the connection but as I am speaking right now, only half of the connection has been established. From what I can Access through Garba’s memories and visual cue they are playing a game of chess but with the remaining thirty two players as the pieces. Losing a piece actually means having the player playing the role of the piece killed.

Garba currently needs my help and he is about to attempt the craziest thing ever in the history of computing. To use my decoding and conversion power to transmit his entire brain scan to another Neuraface user while having their own signals transmitted and translated in his Neuraface. Essential….”

“Crossing minds or more commonly called body swapping” Ababio interjected. “I thought that was only fiction, to be able to scan the complete human brain signals and transmit them in real time to another person’s head is actually possible in theory, but to do so, you would need a medium that can convert the electrical signals of the brain into binary computer data, transmitting it over a secure connection to the target person or device and translating it back to electronic brain signals to be converted into the appropriate information and action” Ababio added with excitement.

Dr. Reece stood with her mouth gaping at the idea MEDULLA just told them about.

“and I just happen to have made the perfect child capable of translating complete brain signals into digital data and information because it has a functioning processing unit that works in similar fashion as the human brain. Reece said.

“Go ahead and help this Garba person, I am going to try tapping into your own memory by myself, just try to keep them alive while you’re at it. If I cannot access it from here, I know just the right facility that has the necessary computing power to have the job done.” She added.

Back at the underground facility, Garba has just received the User identify module number for Mila’s Neuraface, he input it and pressed connect.

Mila is still standing in her white square, and has managed to once again taken more pieces from Carson. His aggressive attack strategy has left him exposed and although Mila is not as experienced him in the game, she has been taking more and more of his pieces. Little did she know that he has been sacrificing those pieces just so he could lure her out and have her expose her king piece which is herself.

Immediately, he moves his knight and shouts “Check”

Mila has been trapped by him that anywhere she currently moves herself which is the king piece would get killed. Rather than moving herself, she Moved Lucy who she has been saving until the chance to use her to deal Carson some damage is perfect. Lucy moved out and finished off the knight which has been fighting without rest but immediately, Mila did not realize that by moving Lucy out that she has fallen into Carson’s trap. He has been saving his queen just in case Mila decides to send Lucy out.

Without warning, Carson’s queen was suddenly moved to eliminate Lucy.

“The two queens are allowed to face off against each other with both their daggers” the voice over the public address system interrupted.

Lucy quickly pulled out her dagger and prepares for a fight.
