POSSIBLITIES PART 1

1412 Words
Garba sat up on the bed as a man who without a doubt is a doctor rushed into his room holding a computer tablet that has Neuratechnologies printed on it’s back. The man walked to Garba and said “Hi, I am Dr. Nora and I performed your implant surgery. I was alerted by Medulla of a distress spike in your brain activity so I rushed over to see what is going on. From the data I saw from the scan I was convinced you were unable to breath and in serious distress” the Doctor said while carefully examining the data on his tablet again “I was having a nightmare, no. Actually it is a flashback of a bad memory that actually fits to be called a nightmare” Garba responded. “interesting” the doctor said while his eyes remain fixed on the screen of his tablet. “How did I get here ? I have been trying to recall how we arrived here but cant, I remember boarding the coach from the Mega building but cant scratch anything pass that” Garba asked but the man did not even raise his head to look at Garba, he still has his eyed fixed on the screen, apparently checking Garba’s live brain scans. “You arrived here on the coach Garba, the reason why you can't remember is because of a short term memory loss which may be a symptom of the implant procedure, there are eighty six gold and titanium filaments deep in your brain right now, although highly precise and accurate incisions were made, but it is not something your brain is used to so I am sure you will be okay in a few days” the doctor said now raising his head to look at Garba’s face. “for now you should relax and focus on the tests and calibrations of the ‘Neuraface’, that is what we have named it. For today, you can rest, we’ll put you through the activation and calibration check tomorrow” the doctor added and left Garba to eat the food that has just been brought to the room and for him to rest. Garba couldn’t agree more with Dr. Nora, so he agreed and began eating his food. Somewhere in the same facility on an island seven hundred and sixty kilometers off the coast of Louisiana stood Dr. Akihiro in the middle of an endless farm of computer screens with numerous people dressed in white, black and sky blue uniforms. Dr. Nora just arrived in the cylindrical elevator located at the middle of the control room, just a few steps to where Akihiro is standing. Nora walked to him with a big grin on his face “you would not believe the success rate on subject 001, his resultant data from the time of implant to two minutes ago show a synergy rate of above eighty percent” Nora said and immediately, Akihiro snatched the tablet in Nora’s hand and began going through a series of numbers, charts and graphs. A few moments later, Dr. Akihiro started laughing out loudly, he patted Nora on the shoulder firmly and said “we have just found the holy grail of this experiment, you said the synergy rate is eighty percent right? You are wrong Nora, it is eighty two and still increasing the longer Neuraface stays in this system, the higher the synergy will go” Nora quickly understood what Dr. Akihiro was saying so he picked a smaller phone from his pocket and whispered to it “turn on Master screen and bring up implanted Neuraface data live” A giant screen by the left wall of the room lit up and displayed thirty five different graphs displaying synergy rates of each volunteer. “Dr. Nora, do you really know what the synergy rate represents for this experiment?” Akihiro asked and before Nora could say anything, he continued “it represents the possibilities that await humanity. At sixty percent synergy, a person can perform a set of simple to complex operations without doing so much as a saying a word or moving a muscle. At sixty five percent synergy you can perform multiple mathematical operations at the same time. But what can we do with a hundred percent synergy rate? I don’t know, there are still many yet to be discovered mysteries of the human brain, we are knocking on the ver door in which behind hides those mysteries” Nora and all the rest of the blue and white colored uniforms have gathered around Akihiro listening in awe as he describes the potential of what their research could achieve. Akihiro sat down on his chair for the first time all day and asked everyone back to work. He gave Nora back his tablet and pulled his from it’s briefcase. “Access servers, passcode Amida, display only those with synergy of fifty and above” The screen suddenly blinked and showed a list of twenty eight subjects. “isolate subject 001 and show full details on second screen and my tablet” Dr. Akihiro said and a second screen came on displaying Garba’s complete vital signs and brain activity. “This is Amida speaking, pay the subjects with less synergy rate than fifty percent their experimental benefits, wipe their memories for the last three days and let them off. Follow strict procedure” He also continued Immediately a group of sky blue uniforms organized themselves and started carrying out the orders. Akihiro pulled out his custom satellite phone and dial in, a few second later, he put it on his cheeks and said “Mr. Lockwood this is Amida, I want to let you know that we are about to proceed to step three, we have already gotten a subject with incredible potential and he has a synergy rate of over eighty percent; over and out”. On the other side of the facility, Garba woke up the next morning feeling as if he is forgetting a very important detail, a sort of worry that he can't put a pin on. He put the new clothes provided to him and was guided to the where the rest of the volunteers are, he was also told that the numbers have been reduced to twenty eight. As he step out of the room, he stops midway to admire how big the facility is. “Where exactly are we right now?” He asked the nurse giving him guidance but was told that they are in the border of Texas and Louisiana. But cant be told the exact location of the facility because it is against the security protocols of the experiment. The nurse also gave Garba guidance on where to head to immediately after his breakfast. As he walks into the dining area, it looks more refined and luxurious than he had expected, he saw Lucy sitting next to Mila and quickly walked to them. “what took you so long to show up? Everything alright with you?” Mila asked while Lucy nods in affirmation of what Mila just asked. “they asked me to spend another day resting because I had a temporary memory loss. Do you people remember how we got here? I can't for the life of me remember how we got here or what happened before the implant was made” “We arrived by the bus, it took us from the mega building and brought us here. No wonder they asked you to rest a little more” Lucy said. Although Garba has no recollection of the last three days, his gut feeling tells him that something is wrong with the story the two of them just gave him. “it is nice to see your faces again, I was thinking of you the whole day yesterday” Mila stood an gave Garba a hug. “you’ll be amazed by what Neuraface can let you do, the technology is superb” she whispered in his ear Garba proceeded on and took his breakfast, after which he walked down the hallway, following the direction that the nurse earlier had given him; he arrived at the activation and calibration unit. “Welcome Garba Danladi” an almost robotic female voice said and the door beeped open; an unbelievably futuristic space full of computer screens and gadgets that Garba can only speculate what they are lies inside.
