A few people strolled in the first non-wintery day of the year, slowing their pace amid the greenery, talking to each other in the afternoon sun. Past the Budokan, he found a bench near the central fountain and speed-dialed Jim Washington, who had left several messages during lunch.
“Hiroshi? Where have you been? I wanted to let you know we got a hit on Gladius. He was detained in Spain.”
“They won’t send him here, will they?”
“Doubtful, but even if he gets out of this, he’ll be on the persona non grata list for all EU countries. He won’t be able to set foot anywhere else without the possibility of being detained.”
