3. The Choice

FAYE I wanted to slam my head against the wall just to get rid of Jayson's word. But of course, even though I ended up head injured, it wouldn't change the fact that Jayson cheated the hell on me. If there was something — or someone — that deserved the punishment, well that was Tara. I was itching to bang her like a bat against the wall or on the floor. Was it really my fault? Was my being so focused on the bistro triggered him to make s**t? "Well f**k him and his d**k! I'm not responsible for it!" I gritted. No more second thoughts. I got my luggage with a few basic things and finally left the house. I drove senselessly like a drunken moose running in rage, surpassing traffic and jumping lane after lane. I no longer care if I ended up in jail this night. In fact, if Death would fetch me before dawn, well that was just fine. I changed gears, maneuvering the steering wheel without thinking where the right highway was. I had no place to go anyway. Not in my parents' house because they would just blame me for living with 'that useless bastard' according to them. I wasn't in the mood to hear them say 'We told you so! He isn't the one for you!" Well, guess what? They're right! Suddenly, sharp rays of light filled my sight, causing me to painfully shut my eyes and let go of the steering wheel. And then a prickling pain hit my head and down my spine, but after that, It was pitch black. I cracked my eyes open before they slid shut again. It was weird. I knew I was already awake, but why did I keep on hearing Jayson's voice? His tone, loud. But there was some hint of anxiety. An accident. "Oh, fu— my head!" I felt like my veins were being squeezed when little by little, my heed came back. Opening my eyes, I'd realized I was bumped into a tree. "Faye! Open this door!" I got startled when someone banged against the car's window. Weakly, I turned my head to where the voice was, and my eyes widened. "T-todd?" He nodded, pointing down at the door's lock. Sure thing he would hear me since the windshield was broken open. I unlocked the car's door, and he opened automatically. Then his head slid in, observing my pathetic situation. Without saying any words, he unfastened my seat belt and helped me get my ass out of the car. The next thing I knew, I was laying in a hospital bed with a bandage on my forehead. The doctor said I was fortunate because I only got a mild concussion and I could get the hell out of the hospital as long as I didn't feel dizzy or any sign of aching. Well, he was wrong. I didn't have luck tonight. And the f*****g ache that was burrowing inside my heart was a hundred times more stinging than what I got in my i***t head. Yes, I'm an i***t because I wasn't aware Jayson was doing shits behind my butt while doing shits at someone's ass at the same time! Someone cleared his throat. "I phoned Cora," Todd said when he sat on a stool beside my bed. I lifted my face to him. Of all the people, Todd was the last person I would expect to save me. He said, he was on his way to his apartment, and he had noticed my car getting on the wrong road. Well, maybe I was a bit lucky anyhow. Someone's there to save my ass from a fatal incident. A while ago, I thanked him a hundred times because of that. He was indeed a good friend. "Oh, Todd. You don't have to do that. She has a shoot tomorrow. I don't want to bother her." He shrugged. "She's on her way now." My shoulders sagged. It's not that I didn't want her to see me. In fact, this was the time I needed someone around, or else my sanity would be in danger too. But I just felt awkward because Todd — his boyfriend that she wanted me to date — was here with me. I didn't want her to think that I was accepting her insane favor. Todd cleared his throat, distracting me from my worried thoughts. "I um... If you don't mind me asking... What happened out there? I mean, well, of course, it's not your first time to drive, but you know, you looked very tired. Is there something bothering you?" I stared at his brown eyes. Do I have to tell him? Is he going to understand me? Hell, he was a man too. He might just laugh at me or tell me that things are not that serious. More so, s*x was just one of their extreme sports! I decided to say it, anyway. "Your friend Jayson cheated on me. I caught him with... T-tara." Hell, I couldn't even say the w***e's name! His dark eyebrows contracted. It took him more than ten seconds to respond to a single word. "Asshole." He shook his head. That was a surprise. I thought he would defend Jason because they were the best buddies just before Cora and I had entered the scene. They were two of the most desirable football players during college. Days after one tournament, to my astonishment, they went to the bistro on my 16th birthday. It was Jason who introduced himself first. When Cora came in, she was already with Todd. Then the rest was history. I sighed, staring at my hands that I kept on squeezing for minutes "I think, this is my fault. If I didn't give my full attention to my family's bistro, maybe Jason won't look for another woman. That's what he said — that I'm not around anymore." "f**k it, Faye. That's the dumbest excuse I've ever heard in my thirty years." Todd touched my cold hands. It was quite odd, but our skin contact sent a chill down my spine. "You know, you can't take it out on yourself, Faye. It's his call to cheat when he did. And no matter what the situation is, Jayson is committed to you." I blinked, holding back the tears that begged to be released. But somehow, his words brought me to instant ease. I was about to open my lips for... well, another thank you when the door swung widely opened and the tall figure of agitated Cora barged in. "What happened to you, b***h?" She walked over me. Her chocolate-colored eyes sparkled with tears. "I'm... I'm okay now, bi— I mean, Cora," I smiled shyly, feeling not comfortable calling her on our weird endearment in front of Todd. "You got me worried sick, girl. Todd says you've got a car accident. Good thing he's there or else..." She paused. Her eyes widened as if seeing a bad picture inside her head. "Oh, well. What's important is that you're safe." She looked around. "Where's Jayson?" My lips pursed, and I lost the smile on my face. But then, it was Todd who answered her curiosity. "Faye's here because of him. And I think she's not getting back to him, meaning she has no place to spend the night now." "Oh..." Cora raised a trimmed brow. Seconds later she smiled widely at me... and winked. "Don't you worry, b***h. You'll stay with us from now on. You can't refuse. And I'm not letting you tag all alone because it will just make you sicker." That was true. I needed people. This was bad. However, I got no other choice.
