Ember doubted her ability to find anyone she loved as much as Slide as she stacked her belongings into her car. Her flight was first thing in the morning, so there was no time for sad indulgences in the past. She had one last suitcase, and she would be all packed and ready to go early tomorrow morning. She looked around the apartment, which looked more like a movie set as she gazed through it. She patted her tummy and whispered to her child a quiet prayer. “We will be on to bigger and better things, buddy,” Ember said. Ember picked up the last of her luggage to put in the car.
