Chapter 13: The Forgotten Timeline

1879 Words
POV: Amara Vale The crimson countdown burned across the night sky. 68:45:12 Its numbers slowly continued falling. Every second echoed like a heartbeat. The lake had become unnaturally still. The towering figure known as the First Memory stood at the center of the glowing Gate, surrounded by thousands of floating fragments of forgotten lives. Its eyes never left Elias and me. FIRST MEMORY: "The Seventh Cycle is no longer stable." "Return what belongs to time." I tightened my grip on Elias' hand. AMARA: "We're not giving you anything." The entity tilted its head. Almost... amused. FIRST MEMORY: "You still speak as though you have a choice." A wave of invisible force spread across the shore. The trees bent violently. The cabin windows shattered. Nathan, Noah, Lucas, Elias, and I were thrown backward. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Elias Carter Lucas stood up first. He drew a small metallic device from inside his coat. It looked like an old pocket compass. Instead of pointing north... Its needle pointed directly toward the First Memory. LUCAS: "It's getting stronger." NOAH: "What is that?" LUCAS: "A Chronos Compass." "It reacts to temporal distortions." Nathan's expression darkened. NATHAN: "If it's spinning this fast..." "...the Forgotten Timeline is opening." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Noah Reynolds "The Forgotten Timeline?" I had never heard that phrase in any Chronos record. Nathan slowly nodded. NATHAN: "Because every document mentioning it was erased." He looked toward the crimson Gate. NATHAN: "It was the first timeline." "The one history buried." The ground trembled. The Gate expanded once more. Instead of blue light... A gray mist slowly emerged. Inside the mist... A city appeared. Not Toronto. Not any city we recognized. Its buildings were cracked. Its streets were empty. Its sky remained frozen between sunrise and sunset. Everything looked... Abandoned. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Amara Vale As I stared into the mist... A sharp pain struck my head. Fragments flooded my mind. Children playing beside a fountain. A crowded train station. A wedding ceremony. A birthday celebration. Then... Every face disappeared. As if they had never existed. AMARA: "...I know this place." Elias looked at me. ELIAS: "You've seen it?" I slowly nodded. AMARA: "In dreams." "No..." "...in memories." Lucas stepped beside us. LUCAS: "That city has another name." He looked directly at the Gate. LUCAS: "Eternis." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Lucas Carter Eternis. The city where the Chronos Project truly began. The city that vanished from history. No country claimed it. No map recorded it. Because... Time itself had erased it. But I remembered. I was there. LUCAS: "Before Toronto..." "Before the Memory Chamber..." "There was Eternis." "It was built to study memory." "But someone wanted more." Nathan lowered his eyes. NATHAN: "They wanted control." The First Memory slowly lifted one hand. The mist surrounding the Gate thickened. Scenes from the Forgotten Timeline appeared before them. Scientists working together. Children laughing. Families smiling. Then... The sky split apart. The city collapsed into light. Millions of memories scattered into the void. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Elias Carter I watched every scene in silence. Then one memory stopped in front of me. It wasn't transparent. It felt alive. The moment I touched it... The world disappeared. I stood in a bright laboratory. The walls bore the emblem of an hourglass. Dr. Adrian Vale stood nearby. But he looked much younger. Across from him... A man I had never seen before. Silver hair. Dark blue eyes. A long white coat. Everyone in the laboratory listened as he spoke. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "We are about to make history." Adrian didn't smile. Instead... He looked worried. ADRIAN: "Or destroy it." The silver-haired man laughed. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "Every great discovery requires sacrifice." Suddenly... The man turned toward me. Not through me. Toward me. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "So..." "...you finally came back." My heart skipped a beat. ELIAS: "...You can see me?" The scientist smiled. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "I've always been able to." He slowly walked closer. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "I've been waiting..." "...for my greatest creation." The vision shattered. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Amara Vale Elias collapsed onto one knee. Blood trickled from his nose. I rushed toward him. AMARA: "Elias!" He looked at me with frightened eyes. ELIAS: "He saw me." NATHAN: "Who?" ELIAS: "The founder." Lucas immediately froze. LUCAS: "...No." ELIAS: "He knew I would come." Nathan whispered in disbelief. NATHAN: "That's impossible." The First Memory suddenly raised both hands. Every floating memory around the lake began spinning together. The crimson sky darkened even further. The countdown accelerated. 68:12:44 68:12:43 68:12:42 The entity spoke once more. FIRST MEMORY: "The Forgotten Timeline has chosen its witnesses." "Enter willingly..." "...or be pulled inside forever." Without warning, the Gate unleashed a massive surge of light. A powerful force pulled everyone toward it. Noah grabbed a nearby tree. Nathan held onto the cabin railing. Lucas reached for Elias. Elias reached for Amara. Their hands locked together. AMARA: "Don't let go!" ELIAS: "Never!" The pull became stronger. The shoreline beneath them cracked apart. The Gate had begun consuming reality itself. Just before they were swallowed by the light... A familiar voice echoed from inside the Forgotten Timeline. A child's voice. DANIEL: "Mom!" "Dad!" The little boy stood on the other side of the Gate. Reaching toward them. Smiling. As if he had been waiting all along. Then... The light consumed everything. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Amara Vale Light surrounded us. There was no sky. No ground. No sound. Only endless white. I refused to let go of Elias' hand. Even as the force pulled us deeper into the Gate, my fingers remained locked around his. Then... The light faded. I slowly opened my eyes. We were standing in the middle of a quiet city. The buildings looked untouched. The streets were clean. People walked peacefully along the sidewalks. Children laughed in a nearby park. It was impossible to believe this was the same ruined city we had seen moments earlier. AMARA: "...Where are we?" Lucas looked around, his expression filled with disbelief. LUCAS: "Eternis..." "It hasn't fallen yet." Nathan slowly nodded. NATHAN: "We're seeing it before the collapse." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Elias Carter The city felt strangely familiar. Not because I had visited it before... But because I remembered living here. The café on the corner. The old bookstore across the street. The clock tower standing in the city square. I knew every road without thinking. ELIAS: "I've been here." Noah looked surprised. NOAH: "You remember it?" I nodded slowly. ELIAS: "...Somehow." As we walked through the streets, something strange happened. The people smiled at us. They greeted us by name. WOMAN: "Good morning, Dr. Carter." MAN: "Professor Vale!" AMARA: "...Professor?" I looked at Elias. He was just as confused. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Noah Reynolds I checked my tablet. No signal. No GPS. No internet. Only one message appeared on the screen. LOCATION UNKNOWN TIMELINE UNREGISTERED NOAH: "We're completely outside recorded history." Nathan quietly replied. NATHAN: "That's because this place no longer exists." A young girl suddenly ran toward Amara. She couldn't have been older than seven. She hugged Amara tightly. LITTLE GIRL: "Mom!" Amara froze. AMARA: "I..." The little girl smiled brightly. LITTLE GIRL: "You promised we'd go to the lake today." Before Amara could answer... A woman hurried over. UNKNOWN WOMAN: "Lily!" "We've talked about running into the street." She apologized politely before leading the child away. Amara watched them leave in stunned silence. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Lucas Carter History was repeating itself. The Forgotten Timeline wasn't simply showing us memories. It was allowing us to walk through them. And that was dangerous. Very dangerous. LUCAS: "Don't interact too much." AMARA: "Why?" LUCAS: "Because the more you change here..." "...the more the present changes." Just then... The city clock struck noon. Dong... Dong... Dong... Everyone in the square suddenly stopped moving. People froze where they stood. Birds stopped flying. Cars halted in the middle of the road. Even the wind disappeared. Only the five of us remained able to move. NOAH: "...What just happened?" Nathan looked toward the clock tower. NATHAN: "He's here." The clock tower doors slowly opened. A man stepped outside. Silver hair. Dark blue eyes. A white laboratory coat. The same scientist Elias had seen in his vision. He calmly descended the stairs. As though he had expected their arrival. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "Welcome back." His voice echoed across the silent square. He looked directly at Elias. Then at Amara. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "You've taken longer than expected." ELIAS: "Who are you?" The man smiled. UNKNOWN SCIENTIST: "I've had many names." "But once..." "...they called me Dr. Orion Graves." Nathan's face immediately turned pale. NATHAN: "...No." Lucas clenched his fists. LUCAS: "I watched you die." Orion smiled faintly. ORION GRAVES: "You watched a memory die." "Not me." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POV: Amara Vale The moment Orion looked at me... The silver pocket watch began glowing again. He noticed it immediately. ORION: "So..." "Adrian entrusted it to you." He slowly walked closer. ORION: "He always believed love could defeat time." His smile disappeared. ORION: "I believed time should defeat love." Elias stepped in front of me. ELIAS: "Stay away from her." Orion looked at Elias with quiet amusement. ORION: "You still protect her." "In every timeline." He slowly reached into his coat. Instead of a weapon... He removed an old photograph. It showed the original Chronos Project team. Adrian Vale. Elena Vale. Nathan Mercer. Lucas Carter. Orion Graves. And... Elias. Only... Elias looked much older than he did now. ELIAS: "...That's impossible." ORION: "Is it?" He handed the photograph to Elias. Written on the back were eight words. "Founding Members of Project Chronos – Year 2048." Noah stared at the date. NOAH: "2048?" "But..." "That's twenty-two years in the future." Orion folded his hands behind his back. ORION: "Project Chronos was never created in the past." Silence. ORION: "It was created in the future." Every heartbeat seemed to stop. AMARA: "...What?" ORION: "The Chronos Project failed in the future." "So we came back." "Again." "And again." "Trying to prevent the first collapse." Nathan slowly whispered. NATHAN: "That's why nothing makes sense..." Lucas closed his eyes. "We weren't changing history..." "We were creating it." Suddenly... The peaceful sky above Eternis cracked like glass. Dark fractures spread across the heavens. The city began shaking violently. People who had been frozen started fading into glowing particles. ORION looked upward. His calm expression disappeared. ORION: "...He's found us." ELIAS: "Who?" ORION pointed toward the widening c***k. Beyond it... A gigantic golden eye slowly opened. It was watching the entire timeline. Its gaze alone caused buildings to crumble. The First Memory's voice echoed across the city. FIRST MEMORY: "The Forgotten Timeline must remain forgotten." "Erase the witnesses." Thousands of shadow-like creatures poured from the c***k in the sky, descending toward Eternis. Lucas immediately drew a compact Chronos device from his belt. Nathan activated a shimmering energy shield. Noah backed away, clutching his tablet. Elias instinctively stood in front of Amara. ORION looked at them with unwavering determination. ORION: "If Eternis falls again..." "...there will be no future left to return to." He extended his hand toward Elias. ORION: "Trust me..." "...or lose everything." The first shadow creature landed in the middle of the square. Its hollow scream echoed through the frozen city. The battle for the Forgotten Timeline had begun. - End of Chapter 13: The Forgotten Timeline -
