Back at the hotel, I had to take a short nap after everything that had happened. I couldn’t believe Aria saw me as the jealous, insecure sister who wanted what she had simply because I opposed her actions. Her words replayed in my head, cutting deeper each time, making it feel like a dream from which I might wake back at the old apartment.
This was our biggest fallout yet. We might misunderstand each other sometimes, but it had never gone this far. I wondered how she was feeling now, wherever she was at the correction center. I hoped things would get better for her. When she came out after a few months, maybe she would move on—and probably divorce Matteo. Whatever they had was toxic and immature. She didn’t deserve someone so childish.
I also wondered how he was even related to Alfonso.
Later that night, I had dinner with Sarah before heading back to my room. Alfonso had stepped out earlier. I took a shower, changed into a casual white tank top and shorts, and settled on the couch with my laptop to watch a movie. Surprisingly, it distracted me from everything that had happened today.
Halfway through the movie, a soft knock echoed on my door. I paused, frowning. I assumed it was Sarah, but Alfonso’s name flashed through my mind.
When I opened the door, I froze.
It was him.
Alfonso stood there casually, in a simple shirt and sweatpants. His hair was slightly damp, as if he had just showered. He looked relaxed, but his eyes held something I couldn’t read.
“Hey,” I said softly.
He nodded once, his gaze lingering on me in a way that made my skin heat instantly. His eyes roamed over my bare legs, taking in the tiny shorts that barely covered anything. I felt exposed.
Realizing he wanted to come in, I stepped aside and gestured toward the room.
“Come in,” I whispered, opening the door wider and closing it behind him.
He walked in calmly, his eyes scanning the room before landing on the laptop.
“So, what brings you here?” I asked, surprised to see him tonight.
He hummed, then turned to face me fully. His eyes softened, a rare warmth shining through.
“I came to check on you,” he said quietly. “After everything that happened with your sister.”
I blinked, caught off guard. He cared? That shocked me more than anything today.
“Unless you want me to leave,” he added.
“No,” I said quickly. “You can stay. Please.”
I walked over to the couch and gestured to the empty space beside me.
“Sit.”
His eyes followed my every movement before he finally joined me, close enough that I could feel his presence.
“I was watching a movie,” I said softly. “I hope you don’t mind.”
“I don’t,” he replied, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
The tension between us built instantly. His eyes were no longer on the screen—they were on me. The room suddenly felt warmer, even though I wore only a thin strap top.
He shifted slightly closer, barely an inch, but it felt like contact.
“So why do you watch this kind of movie?” he asked, his tone calm and casual, though nothing about this felt casual.
“Do you really believe in love that much?” he added.
I nodded slowly.
“Love is what makes us human,” I whispered. “It helps us understand and feel for each other, even when we make mistakes. It’s a beautiful feeling.”
He nodded, his eyes fixed on me.
“What about you?” I asked gently. “Do you believe in it?”
He paused, gaze turning inward for a moment before returning to mine.
“I like the idea of it,” he said. “I believe it’s not meant for everyone… which includes me.”
I hummed, thinking over his words.
“I don’t know why, but I thought I expected something different,” I said lightly. “A man like Alfonso De Lisi doesn’t do love.”
“I love to do things that make me happy,” he replied calmly. “Would you consider that love?”
He relaxed further into the couch. Somehow, the space between us vanished.
“I don’t know,” I whispered. “What makes you happy?”
“Simple,” he said, smirking. “Women. Beautiful ones.”
I rolled my eyes.
“I can make you happy,” he added, his voice dropping lower, thicker.
I suddenly felt the warmth of his body pressing closer. He stared into my eyes, then slowly let his gaze wander down my body. It wasn’t rushed. It was deliberate, teasing.
His lips hovered near mine.
“Do you want me to?” he murmured, brushing them lightly against mine before pulling back slightly, testing me.
His hand slid onto my thigh, moving slowly upward, sending shivers through me. He traced the hem of my shorts, the heat of his touch making me lean into him without thinking.
His hand settled over my ass. I gasped, leaning toward him.
“Say it,” he whispered.
“Y-yes,” I breathed, voice cracking. That was all the invitation he needed. His lips met mine, slow at first, then urgent. I moaned softly as his hands roamed over my body, squeezing and teasing.
He pulled me onto his lap, and I straddled him, our bodies pressed together. We broke the kiss to gasp for air.
“I’m going to make you feel good tonight,” he murmured, sending a thrill through me.
We kissed again. His hands slid over my back. I ran my fingers through his hair, pressing closer. His lips moved to my cheeks, then down to my neck, sucking and lightly biting. I arched, moaning louder.
His hands teased my n*****s through my thin top. Then, with a deliberate tug, he lowered the strap, exposing my breasts. He paused, admiring them before looking at me. I instinctively moved to cover myself, but he held my hands away.
“You’re so gorgeous, Diana,” he whispered. His hands cupped and massaged my breasts, making me arch further, eyes rolling in pleasure. I could feel him pressing against me, lips returning to my n*****s with deliberate intensity.
Just as things were getting more intense, a loud bang echoed on the door. We froze. I scrambled off his lap and quickly adjusted my top.
“Sir, ma’am… we have a problem. It’s Matteo,” one of the guards announced.
My stomach sank. What could he have done now?
Alfonso opened the door, and his guard looked at him with a mix of fear and uncertainty. He spoke in Italian, brushing his hands through his hair in frustration before nodding toward the guard, who left immediately.
He then turned to me, his expression darkened. Something had clearly gone wrong.
“What is it?” I asked.
“He has run away,” he said, cupping my cheeks gently.
“I need you to stay… hmm. I’ll be back before you even notice. Just get some rest,” he assured me, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek before leaving the room. I tried to speak, but no words came out.
I sank onto the couch, unsure how to feel. I didn’t really know Matteo, so a part of me felt indifferent toward him. Yet, his actions were largely the reason I was caught up in Alfonso’s life and why my sister was locked up. I just hoped this stupid decision he’d made wouldn’t trigger another rollercoaster of emotions or spark more quarrels.
My mind drifted back to what had happened earlier before the guard interrupted us. My cheeks immediately heated at the thought of it. The way his touch and kiss made me lose myself completely. I didn’t know why his touch had this effect on me.Were we going to have s*x if that knock hadn’t come? Probably yes.
For a second I felt the urge to touch myself but stopped. It didn’t feel right, not when Matteo was out there somewhere.
I don’t even know how long I stayed like that until sleep pulled me under on the couch. The next sound I heard was the soft creak of the door opening.
I opened my eyes slowly and reached for my phone. It was almost four in the morning.
Alfonso walked in, the only light coming from the small lamp. He sat beside me quietly.
I immediately sensed something different about his mood. He looked worried.
I needed to ask.
“What happened? Did you find him?”
He hummed in response.
We stayed silent for a while before he finally spoke.
“He tried to commit suicide.”
My eyes widened.
“Drugs… he is at the hospital right now,” he added.
I shifted closer to him and held his hand. I felt him tense at first, then gradually relax.
“I am sorry to hear that. I’m glad you found him before the worst could happen. He will be fine,” I whispered.
“You need to get some rest,” I added after a few minutes of silence. I helped him up and guided him to the bed, then lay down beside him. He immediately wrapped me in his arms, pulling me close, and we stayed that way, feeling each other’s heartbeat until sleep finally claimed us both.
