The failsafe facility is exactly what it sounds like—a last resort.
Built into an abandoned industrial complex two hours north of the city, it's designed to be completely self-sufficient. Solar power, water filtration, enough supplies to last six months. Reinforced walls, multiple escape routes, security systems that would make a military base jealous.
Cain built it five years ago, when he realized that eventually, someone would get close enough to make him run.
He just never imagined he'd be bringing anyone with him.
"It's very—" Elara searches for the word as they enter the main living space. "—bunker-like."
"That's the idea." Cain sets down their bags. "There are three bedrooms, a kitchen, a command center. Everything we need."
"For how long?"
"As long as it takes." H
