It wasn’t a real big bit of water, but a spot in the stream where Doc had built a dam and let water pool as a swimming hole in summer and a skating rink in winter. Doc’s pond had been a popular place to gather when me and VJ had been growing up. Many a Scout and 4H campout, and later bonfire date, and later still kegger met at Doc’s where the adult supervision included Doc and his wife and whatever parents wanted to stick around and shoot the s**t with them.
