The Golden Wolf

1231 Words
Theodore looked at Beth on the ground. His heart still couldn't bear it, but thinking about his family, did he really have to give up his inheritance? No, this can't be. His gaze became firm, and he tremblingly picked up the bow and arrow, positioned himself and drew the bow; the arrow was aimed at Beth, who had no resistance on the ground. Beth was in despair; she struggled to resist; she didn't want to die! No, she was powerless to resist; she gradually gave up resisting. The light of hope in her eyes gradually disappears, and lying dejectedly on the grass; the dark and silent forest is cold and desperate; at this moment, a humble woman is waiting for her lover to give her a death sentence. "Hohoho." Just as Beth closed her eyes and prepared to meet the final fatal blow, the air temperature in the dark night suddenly dropped cold, and it did not take long for the wind to begin to gust. "Ow!" There was also the faint sound of objects colliding from the trees, and a few shadows of unknown animals flashed through the blur. The wind in the sky was getting stronger and stronger, blowing people's eyes open; Theodore's bow and arrow were blown to the ground by this gust of wind, and he could only turn back to hug his sister. When the wind stopped, he was surprised that a half-sized wolf pack slowly stepped out of those thick trees, staring at him closely with sharp eyes. "Oh no, it's the wolves; we've gotten too far." Alicia had lost the smug look she had earlier and turned into fear. Now, she only dared to hide behind Theodore and keep retreating, afraid she would lose her life in the next second. The werewolves would hunt humans to eat and would also capture royal women. Human royalty was endowed with divine fertility, and legend had it that a union with human royalty could give birth to the strongest warrior in the pack. So, neither werewolves nor vampires would take the lives of human royalty. Alicia and Theodore's mothers were royalty; they had half of the royal blood in their bodies so the wolves wouldn't eat them. At this time, the wolves did not attack forward; a wolf with golden fur slowly emerged from the darkness. Its eyes shone with golden light in the darkness, its fur was shiny compared to the other wolves, and its body shape was more robust; it was a wolf with a position in the pack. The golden wolf sniffed and circled around Theodore and Alicia, stopping briefly next to Alicia. It raised its big, thick paw and clapped three times. Apparently, it also understood through its sense of smell that Theodore and Alicia were descendants of the royal family, and it was imploring Theodore to let him go by leaving Alicia behind. Theodore nervously protects Alicia behind him. He also understands the wolf's meaning, but he can't abandon his sister to escape. Alicia's face was full of surprise and fear; her body couldn't stop trembling. She tugged tightly at Theodore's shirt, trying to get behind him to avoid the wolf's eyes. She glanced at Beth on the ground and blurted out, "Don't arrest me; you guys go eat the woman on the ground; she's yours; leave us alone." The wolves looked at Beth on the ground; some began to stir; it was obvious they were getting a little hungry as well; the scent of Beth's fishy, sweet blood in the air was hitting the wolves' sanity. They were all waiting for the golden wolf's command; as soon as the golden wolf nodded, they would charge like bullets. It was as if the golden wolf was pondering whether or not to let them go when Theodore also spoke up. "Honorable wolf, please allow us to express our respect to the wolf. The woman on the ground is our gift for the wolf; we only ask the noble wolf to spare me and my sister." After saying that, he knelt on one knee toward the golden wolf to express his reverence. This is the highest etiquette of human nobles. Kneeling to the wolf is a great shame for human nobles, but Theodore does not care much anymore. At this moment, he only wanted to take his sister and leave, and to do so, he chose to sacrifice his lover. Theodore's cold words hit Beth's heart like a stone. She opened her eyes and looked at him calmly; there was no more fear or sadness in her eyes; she no longer had expectations of him; she just looked at him calmly. The golden wolf grinned a little, looking at Theodore with disdain; he jumped up to the tree's root, looking down at Theodore below, and raised his head, signaling Theodore that he agreed to his proposal. Theodore didn't dare look at Beth's gaze; his face was on fire, his cheeks red with shame, and his insides flooded with guilt, sadness, and insult. After getting a sign from the golden wolf, he no longer hesitated. He pulled Alicia behind him and ran toward the forest beyond. The departure of Theodore and Alicia also took away the last bright light in the forest. They still need to leave a kerosene lamp for Beth. Beth was lying on the grass. The wound that was pierced by the bow and arrow was continuously oozing blood. Her posture became strange due to the pain, and at the moment, she was like a broken rag doll that was casually thrown on the grass by its owner. She looked at the golden wolf with cold eyes, calmly accepting that she would become food for the wolf. She was already broken-hearted, and she wasn't afraid to die anymore. The golden wolf was surprised by the determination in her eyes. Her eyes were golden brown, shining and bright, and even in the face of the threat of death, they remained unassuming. It was drawn forward by the woman's eyes; it wanted to see what kind of woman this was. Just then, the gusts of wind from earlier began to blow again; this time, even the thick trees around it were blown askew by the gusts. The golden-colored wolf was forced to retreat, and the wolves began to panic; the wolves were like an enemy. "It's a secret spell! The vampires are coming; prepare for battle!" The top of the tree quickly flashed a black shadow to the top of another tree; only a few wolf howls could be heard, and several giant wolves fell from the pack. The golden-colored wolf seemed to be no match for the other party and could only lead the pack back. One of the wolves in the pack didn't want to give up the prey at its mouth; it made a fierce staging dive and ran toward Beth. It tried to take Beth with it. The moment it lunged at Beth, a black shadow instantly appeared. A sharp blade appeared out of nowhere, and the wolf was cut into two pieces. Neither the wolf nor Beth could see the other's shadow; the other was too fast. The golden wolf could only give the order to retreat; it took one last deep look at Beth before turning around and disappearing into the black forest, never to be seen again.
