Episode 6: Love Is Rebellion

565 Words
The night hung heavy between them after Serah's confession. The truth lay bare like broken glass across the floor—sharp, shining, dangerous. Kael stood by the shattered remains of her wine glass, staring at her like he was still trying to convince himself it was real. That she was real. That the girl who’d wrecked his world in the rain… was the same girl he'd been promised to in a lifetime neither of them had chosen. “I didn’t know,” she whispered. “I didn’t want to,” he said. They were quiet. The loft was too quiet. Only the distant hum of the city filtered through the fogged glass window. Serah moved first. She reached for him—not out of apology, not out of guilt—but because love didn’t always ask for logic. Sometimes it just… fought. And Kael let her. She pressed her forehead to his chest. “What do we do now?” His arms circled her like armor. “We fight. Like we always have. Just now… it’s not just for us anymore.” She pulled back slightly, confusion flickering in her eyes. Kael studied her face carefully. She hadn’t told him yet. He could feel it—the way she flinched under his touch, the way her breaths came shallower, as if carrying something fragile inside her. “Serah,” he said slowly, “there’s something else, isn’t there?” She hesitated. Her lips trembled. Then, finally, she said it. “I’m pregnant.” The world stopped. Kael blinked. “Say it again.” “I’m pregnant, Kael.” She laughed softly, bitter and beautiful all at once. “I took the test this morning. Three of them, actually. I was going to tell you later. Before all of this. Before… everything.” His breath caught like he’d been punched. A baby. Their baby. In the middle of arranged marriages and broken promises and shadows from underground rings—life had found a way. “Holy hell,” he whispered. Serah took a shaky step back, suddenly unsure. “I didn’t plan this. I don’t expect anything. I just… I needed you to know.” Kael moved in one stride, cupping her face. “Serah. This is everything. You are everything.” Tears welled up in her eyes. “I’m scared,” she admitted. “So am I,” he said. “But not of being a father. Not of us. I’m scared of the world trying to rip this away.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “But I won’t let it.” Outside, thunder rumbled—soft, distant, like the sky itself was listening. Serah wrapped her arms around him, both of them holding on like the storm hadn’t already begun. Later that night, they lay together on the couch, her head on his chest, his hand resting protectively on her stomach. “We have to tell them,” she said quietly. “My father. Your family. Everyone.” Kael nodded. “Let them try to control us. Let them scream legacy and contracts and bloodlines.” He turned, eyes blazing with something feral and beautiful. “We’re writing a different story.” Serah smiled. “What do we call this chapter?” He kissed her forehead, his voice low and sure. “Love is rebellion.” [To Be Continued in Episode 7]
