Vivienne POV Someone came for me an hour before dinner, a young staff member who introduced herself only as "here to help you dress" before laying out a dress on my bed that cost, I was fairly certain, more than I'd made in a month at my old job. I stared at it for a moment. "I don't need anything that expensive." "It's what was selected for you." Of course it was. I put it on anyway, because refusing felt like a fight I didn't have the energy for yet. The dress fit perfectly, which somehow made me more uncomfortable. Someone had clearly taken measurements without asking me. The staff member arranged my hair into something more polished than I'd managed on my own in years. When she finished, she stepped back and gave a small nod. "You're ready." I looked at myself in the mirror. F
