Chapter 2The fire warming his back and the beautiful woman in front of him went a long way toward soothing Kenneth’s nerves. He couldn’t tell if Leon was asleep or unconscious on the floor, and if anything, the storm outside sounded worse. Kenneth knew they were extremely lucky to be where they were. Leon had resisted taking shelter in Amy’s barn at all, and he had been furious when the boy found them—his anger only increasing when Kenneth half-carried, half-dragged Leon to the cabin.
