“It’s fine. You don’t have to face it right now. I’ll keep you warm.” His lips moved against her hair as he spoke, but he wasn’t quite kissing her. Except for the fact that she knew exactly how he looked and felt without his clothes on, the embrace could have been chaste. His soothing voice did more to quell her tears than any amount of heat he might share. Slowly, Amy relaxed in his arms, trying to ignore the dark thoughts lurking in the corners, waiting to subdue her yet again. It was the hardest thing she had ever done. Harder than burying Ernest.
