Chapter 6: “…Why is he being so calm?”

1189 Words
Meanwhile— Sky’s car slowly stopped in front of the cemetery gate. The rain had become lighter now. Sky stepped out of the car. Blue also opened the door and stepped outside. She looked up. The cemetery gate stood tall and silent under the dim lights. Rows of trees surrounded the quiet place. Blue stared at the entrance quietly while holding the bouquet. Then suddenly— The quiet atmosphere of the cemetery was broken by the sharp screech of tires. The blue sports car stopped abruptly near the entrance gate. Sky and Blue both turned their heads. The driver’s door opened. Xavier jumped out first. His hair was still messy from sleep, and his shirt was only half tucked in. He stretched his arms dramatically before looking toward Sky. Then his eyes moved to the girl standing beside him. Blue. She stood quietly under the dim streetlight, holding the bouquet close to her chest. Her pale dress was slightly damp from the rain, and her long dark hair clung softly to her shoulders. The simple dress and the way she lowered her gaze made her look fragile and innocent. Xavier blinked. “…Oh.” He looked between Sky and Blue again. “…Looks like no one got punched.” Behind him, Noah stepped out of the passenger seat. Unlike Xavier, his expression remained calm as always. His brown eyes first examined Sky, then slowly shifted to Blue. For a moment, he simply observed her. Something about her seemed different. But he said nothing. Xavier walked closer with exaggerated caution, as if approaching a dangerous animal. He leaned slightly toward Noah and whispered loudly, “Is Sky calm… or is this the calm before the storm?” Noah gave him a flat look. “Stop talking nonsense.” Xavier straightened and grinned awkwardly. “Hey, Blue!” Blue slowly lifted her head. Her black eyes looked at Xavier quietly. “Hello.” Her voice was soft. Xavier scratched the back of his head. “Well… you sure scared everyone today.” He glanced at Sky. “You know, running away on your wedding day is not exactly a normal hobby.” Blue lowered her gaze again. “Tomorrow is wedding. Not today.” Her fingers tightened slightly around the bouquet. Everyone turned their eyes to her. As they realized they misunderstood that she was running away from wedding. “I just… wanted to visit my grandmother first.” She looked toward the cemetery gate. “She raised me in the orphanage.” “Today is her death anniversary.” Her voice was quiet and sincere. Xavier’s expression softened slightly. “…Oh.” He suddenly looked a bit awkward. “Well… that makes sense.” Noah stepped forward calmly. “Do you want to go inside?” Blue nodded slowly. “Yes.” Sky had remained silent the entire time. His gaze rested on Blue. Carefully. Too carefully. He had been watching her since the moment he arrived. Her voice. Her behavior. Even the way she held the flowers. Everything felt… unfamiliar. But he said nothing. Finally, he turned toward the cemetery gate. “Let’s go.” The group walked inside. The cemetery was quiet. Rows of gravestones stood silently beneath the cloudy sky. Rainwater glistened faintly on the stone surfaces. Blue walked slowly along the path. The memories of the original owner of this body guided her steps. After a few minutes, she stopped in front of a simple grave. The stone was small and slightly worn. Blue stared at the name carved into it. For a moment, she said nothing. Then she slowly knelt down. She placed the bouquet gently in front of the grave. The others stood a short distance behind her. Blue lowered her head. “…Grandma.” Her voice was soft. “I'm sorry I came late.” She paused. Inside her mind, Blue Evans felt a strange emotion. This grandmother had been very important to the girl whose body she now occupied. Even if those feelings were not originally hers— They still lingered inside this body. Blue exhaled slowly. “I’m doing okay.” “Please don’t worry about me.” Behind her, Xavier leaned closer to Noah and whispered again. “…Why do I suddenly feel guilty?” Noah crossed his arms. “Because you talk too much.” Xavier sighed quietly. “Yeah… that’s true.” Meanwhile— Sky stood silently. His brown eyes remained fixed on Blue’s back. The quiet girl kneeling in front of the grave looked completely harmless. Fragile. Lonely. But something deep inside him still whispered— Something about her had changed. And Sky never ignored his instincts. Not even once. The cemetery fell into a quiet silence again. Rain had almost stopped now. Only a few drops fell from the leaves of the tall trees surrounding the graves. Blue remained kneeling in front of the gravestone. Her black eyes rested on the name carved into the stone. Even though the memories belonged to the original owner of this body, the emotions lingering inside her chest felt strangely real. Loneliness. Gratitude. Loss. Blue Evans slowly lowered her head. “…Thank you for raising her.” She whispered so quietly that no one behind her could hear. “Don’t worry.” “I’ll live well in her place.” Behind her, the three men stood a few steps away. Xavier shifted his weight from one foot to the other, clearly uncomfortable with the quiet atmosphere. He leaned closer to Noah again and whispered, “…Do we just stand here like statues?” Noah gave him a sideways glance. “What do you suggest?” Xavier scratched his chin thoughtfully. “I don’t know… maybe pretend to pray?” Noah ignored him. Meanwhile, Sky remained completely still. His gaze never left Blue. Something about the way she spoke felt different. The Blue he knew before had always been timid, nervous around him, and easily flustered. But the girl kneeling there now… She looked calm. Too calm. After a moment, Blue slowly stood up. She brushed the dust from her dress gently. When she turned around, her eyes met Sky’s brown gaze. For a second, neither of them spoke. Then Blue lowered her gaze slightly. “Thank you… for bringing me here.” Her voice sounded sincere. Xavier suddenly clapped his hands. “Well!” Everyone looked at him. He grinned awkwardly. “Now that the emotional cemetery visit is finished…” He pointed toward the sky. “…should we go back before it starts raining again?” Blue looked at the ground. “…Yes.” Sky spoke calmly. “Let’s go.” They began walking back toward the entrance. Gravel crunched softly beneath their shoes. Xavier walked beside Noah and whispered again, “Honestly… I thought Sky would drag her back home immediately.” Noah glanced at him. “So did I.” Xavier blinked. “…Wait, really?” Noah nodded slightly. Xavier looked back at Sky suspiciously. “…Why is he being so calm?” Noah answered quietly, “Because he’s thinking.” Xavier shivered. “That’s worse.”
