Chapter 2: Does Sky love her?

644 Words
Outside, the night air was cool. The parking area was quiet except for the sound of someone impatiently tapping their feet. Xavier leaned against his car, clearly annoyed. “You two walk so slow!” Xavier complained the moment he spotted them, already halfway to the car. “Come on! We have to find Blue before the wedding starts!” Without waiting for a reply, he yanked the door open and dropped into the driver’s seat like a man on a mission. Noah let out a quiet sigh and slid into the passenger seat, rubbing his temples as if preparing himself mentally. Behind them, Sky didn’t move immediately. He stood beside his car, unmoving. The wedding day had almost arrived. Yet the bride— was gone. Vanished, as if she had never existed at all. For a brief second, the world around him felt… distant. Then, without a word, Sky opened his car door and got in. Two engines started almost at the same time. And soon— both cars drove off in different directions. Inside Xavier’s car, the earlier urgency faded into a heavy silence. The low hum of the engine filled the space. Xavier’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his usual restless energy subdued. After a moment, he spoke— “Do you think she's okay?” he asked quietly. For once, his usual joking tone was gone. Noah glanced at him. Among the three of them, Xavier was the most soft-hearted. Despite his loud personality and constant teasing, he cared deeply about the people around him. “Don't worry,” Noah said calmly. “She'll be fine.” Xavier sighed. “We sent people everywhere… but still no sign of Blue.” Noah frowned slightly. Something felt strange. Xavier seemed… too concerned. Then suddenly— “God,” Xavier said while clasping his hands dramatically, “please let that girl not die so Sky won't feel sad.” Noah’s mouth twitched. He couldn't stop the snort that escaped him. Right… I forgot. This i***t is only kind to the people he actually loves. Noah leaned back in his seat and secretly prayed that Blue was safe wherever she was. After a moment, Xavier suddenly asked, “Hey… did Sky call you?” Noah shook his head. Xavier stared at the road ahead. “Does Sky love her?” Noah thought for a second. “…Maybe.” His voice carried a trace of uncertainty. Not denial. Not confirmation. Just doubt. “I’m not sure,” he added quietly. Xavier fell silent for a moment, his fingers tapping lightly against the steering wheel. Xavier knew Noah. Knew him well enough to understand what that hesitation meant. Because whenever Noah doubted something—it rarely stayed a doubt for long. More often than not, it turned into the truth. Just like before. When Noah had once said, almost absentmindedly, that Sky might be starting to fall for Blue. Back then, it had sounded uncertain. Now… it didn’t feel like a guess anymore. Xavier groaned loudly. “Damn. I lost my brother!” Noah raised an eyebrow. “You know,” he said slowly, “you sound like you're in love with Sky.” Xavier instantly turned toward him. “I am straight, okay?!” Noah couldn't help but smile. Eventually they returned to the hotel where they were staying during the search. Exhaustion finally started to settle in. “Get some rest,” Noah said while opening the room door. “We'll search again later.” He walked toward the bedroom. “Yeah… I seriously need sleep,” Xavier muttered. He jumped onto the bed dramatically, spreading his arms like a starfish. Sky did not return to the hotel. While Noah went to the other room to rest and Xavier snored loudly like a dying engine, Sky was already on the road.
