I stopped riding and lay next to him. He held me close and kissed my lips.
"This will be the best seven months of my life," He said, trying to make light of a painful situation.
"I need to tell you something," I told him, and he was attentive. Now that we were together, hiding things from him was pointless. I wouldn't want him to discover by surprise, so I braced myself to tell him the truth.
"In my former life, I never shifted no matter how bad the situation was; I remained in my human form," I told him, and he turned me to look at him.
"Why?" He asked, and I looked at him.
