Eventually, I found a parking spot. “Get ready, Smith, my man. This place is crazy shit.” We got out and staggered back down the street. Carver led the way down the walk to a building with a steel door. “Used to be a hotel years ago,” he announced. The thrumming of cutting-edge music resonated from the other side of the door. Carver knocked on it and the door swung open. A cacophony of music and yelling filled my ears. The biggest man I had ever seen loomed out at us. “Fifteen to get in.” He was wearing sunglasses despite the darkened interior. Carver handed the man a wad of bills and ushered us inside.
