Episode 8 : Run baby Run 2

When Lily was out of the Hugh enterprise main entrance she saw the tall guy who she assumed is the bodyguard of James Hugh .

He smiled at her in assurance and said calmly :” Ms. Williams , my name is Mathew Laurent and I’m supposed to drive you home for you safety . Boss’s orders.” And he smiled professionally again at her .

She rolled her eyes at him and his boss who doesn’t seem to understand the word no ! Another word that doesn’t exist in his dictionary .

In fact she was starting to feel tired and she thought , she might sleep in the cab on her back home which is not the wisest thing to do in New York City , so she nodded her head agreeing to the free ride , she thought to herself :”I mean at least I got out of that man’s grip”

She said grumpily:”ok fine “

Mathew’s smile widened and he opened the backseat door of a black SUV to her saying professionally : “ My pleasure Miss Williams , please call me Mathew “

Lily returned back his smile , something about this guy makes her feel comfortable and safe , she nodded at him saying :”please call me Lily”

He nodded his head in agreement :”very well then Lily ! Enjoy the ride “ grinning widely .

She hoped in the back seat of the luxurious car … once they started to move , she drifted away in a long dreamless sleep , seconds before she sleeps she thought she should give her home address to Mathew to enter it into the GPS but sleep was stronger than her thoughts , her thinking . She was really tired and overwhelmed by all today’s events .

After 30 minutes drive through the traffic jam , Mathew pulled over in front of Lily’s building , she was sleeping like a baby so sound and pure . He tried to wake her up by calling her name once , twice … she doesn’t respond . He started to worry , he left the driver’s seat and opened her door , touched her shoulder gently while calling her name . She opened her eyes not realizing where she is , then she started to recall what day it is , who the man’s standing in front of her . She smiled at him shyly embarrassed that she fell asleep while he was driving her home .

“I’m sorry I slept in the car Mathew … Cars are like a swing for my inner child , either I sleep or I get motion sickness ! “ she doesn’t why she’s telling him this right now , she needs a filter on her brain when she wakes up .

He chuckled and said :”don’t worry about it Lily … you know what I like you ! Too bad you won’t be working for my boss , I would teach you a lot of things and we would be good friends !”

She looked at him feeling sorry for how he feels because that’s how she feels too ! But she remained silent . She thanked him politely and stepped out of the car . When she got out , Mathew handed her a copy of the contract that was offered to her a couple of hours ago with a business card clipped to it with a hand written telephone number on it and he said :

“Lily ! Mr. Hugh wanted me to give you a copy of the contract to read calmly at home and try to rethink about his offer “

She opened her mouth to say something but before she talks he interrupted her saying :

“Before you say anything ! Promise me you’ll consider it ! Please don’t throw it in the garbage when you get back home !”

“Oh sweet poor guy , he thought I’ll wait till I get home to throw it ! I would throw it right here right now in the street’s garbage container in front of his eyes to send the message to his boss “ she thought to herself and smiled but then she remembers that this James Hugh never backs down on what he wants and deep down her guts she knew that this is not over yet .

She took the contract from his hand furiously and shoved it into her tote .

He added : “ on the first page you’ll find Mr.Hugh’s business card attached with a paper clip , he wrote his private number himself so you can save it on your phone and call him or text him whenever you want to ask him for a work favor or anything you might think of …. And I’m quoting his own words”

“Haha ! No thank you ! I won’t need anything from him except to leave me alone !” She replied instantly .

“Shall I tell him this or this is between me and you ?” He asked amused .

“No please , save no details at my expense ! Spill the beans everywhere … I’d rather die than work for your freak control Boss !” She was nearly shouting , her cheeks turned tomato red and was furious as hell . This man won’t stop , he just won’t !

He chuckled loudly and said :” I may understand that James can be sometimes really frustrating by his commands and you as a free soul as I can see can’t tolerate to be controlled , but trust me he’s a good boss ! I won’t be talking about his personality because that’s up to you to discover and form your opinion about it , so not my place to insinuate opinions and ideas about him right now because to be honest : I’ll be biased . So how about this : as your new friend my advice to you is to try to be more flexible , consider the offer , don’t turn down such a huge opportunity because you don’t like the boss ! You’ll be working with me … for him ! We can be work buddies ! And don’t push yourself too hard around him , you won’t be marrying him ! He’ll just be your boss and you’re the perfect candidate for the job !”

She looked shocked at the plain facts he was telling her , this guy doesn’t differ from his boss except that he may say the same things in a nicer way but still … in your face a bullet of truth ! Another thing that kept her shocked is his words : “you won’t be marrying him!” She snorted mentally and rolled her eyes thinking :

“As if !”

“Ok only for you Mathew , the nicest person I met today , I won’t throw the contract in the garbage bin today ! I’ll wait till tomorrow !” She smiled amused .

He chuckled and said : “works for me ! See you soon Lily !”

“Goodbye Mathew !”

She turned her back and went inside the deli at the corner of the street below her building , got herself a curry wurst sandwich , this deli has the finest wurst of Germany that reminded her of her home … how lucky she is .

She held the foil wrapped sandwich and opened the building door unaware of Mathew who’s still in the car watching her vanish inside the building .

He picked up his phone dialed James’ number :

“Yeah Boss , I’m kinda fixing your mess ! She just got herself a Sandwitch from the deli in her building and went inside to her apartment !” He said teasing him .

James sighed : “so she doesn’t eat the feast I offered her but chooses a poor deli in NYC to eat from ! What a stubborn girl !”

Mathew asked : “ I did as you asked without questioning you , but as your friend I must know that everything is under control ! Do you suspect this girl to have ties with our enemies ?! Why are you so concerned about her ?!”

James sighed : “ I’m gonna tell you Mathew but even Caleb can’t know about this till I get 100% sure ! Understood ?!”

“Loud and clear Boss” answered Mathew .

James sighed like he’s chocking on words :

“ She might be … She might be … my mate !”

“What ?!!!!” Exclaimed Mathew fully knowing what this word means in the werewolf world , what it means for the alpha of the pack , what it means for the alpha king of the werewolf realm and most importantly what it means to the enemies ! Especially the vampires’ king .

“I’m not 100% sure yet , but that’s what Jack kept screaming in my head when I first saw her ! I must keep an eye on her , keep her close and not a word of this to be out to anyone or I would be putting her life in danger … mate or not !”

“Yes , yes of course !” Said Mathew .

“What do you want me to do now ?!” Asked Mathew .

“Nothing … just keep an eye on her from afar till I figure out what she’s gonna do next with her life !” Said James desperately .

“. Don’t worry boss , she’ll come around … but may I give you a piece of advice ?!” Said Mathew in hesitation.

James soft voice changed into a more harsh one : “ shoot !”

Mathew swallowed and resumed : “ you can’t humiliate her the way you did in your office , I don’t know what you said or did to her … but she looked very furious and humiliated ! She’s definitely not like any other girl you’ve known , she doesn’t play by the rules , she has her limits … you gotta be … gentler with her if I may say !”

“Watch it Mathew ! You’re crossing the line !” Said James calmly but in a dominating voice .

“I’m sorry but as your friend I must say it ! You might lose her forever if you kept treating her like that … as a last advice : if she agrees to work for you , treat her professionally till she gets used to the idea of you around her ! You always do your business neatly and professionally , consider her a deal you must close ! What would you do ?!”

James paused before answering then remained silent thinking about Mathew’s advice . He finally said : “ don’t be late , we have a meeting in an hour !” And he hung up on him .

Mathew started the engine on his way back to the company .

In her apartment , Lily took off her clothes , poured herself a glass of wine , looked at the sandwich and suddenly she doesn’t feel hungry anymore so she put it in the fridge to get it out of her sight , she needs a drink …. a strong one ! In the bathroom she opened the hot water tap in the bathtub , poured a little of her favorite bubble soap … she needs relaxation and she needs it fast !

She stayed in the bathtub for so long that she started to prune ! Always thinking about Mathew’s speech , James Hugh’s looks and actions . She can’t wrap her head around him and his actions ! Does he hate her ?! Does he like her ?! And she laughed loudly about it when she imagined him liking her … of course not you i***t ! She thought to herself . She finished her glass of wine , she got out of the bathtub , dried herself up , applied her body moisturizer , dried her hair , did her skin care routine , it’s still a bit early to sleep , the night is still young but as she doesn’t know what she will be doing tomorrow and as she was tired as hell , she decided she’ll go to sleep early today . She went to the kitchen to pour herself another glass of wine , but she found the contract lying on the kitchen island … she held the business card with the handwritten phone number on it , she feels something about this job opportunity , something about this man but she’s not quite sure what it is .

She drank her glass in one sip and went to bed … the sheets were cold and fresh , she loves a clean fresh bed after a long day , she snugged in and went into deep sleep … she dreamt about a forest , a wolf , a warlock talking to her … warning her about something but he speaks in an enigmatic language ! She can’t understand a word of his talk ! She kept running in her dream barefoot until she bumped into someone tall and dark , incredibly handsome who took her and flew into the skies … she kept turning in her sleep , sweating like she’s in a nightmare … and then the dream ended , she woke up suddenly hyperventilating , drank a sip of water that was on the night stand , looked into her phone to see that it was 3 o’clock in the morning , she put her head back on the pillow and dozed off into a dreamless sleep for the rest of the night .
