I spent the night prepping veggies and eggs. I was glad the pack house had a chef kitchen. with several griddles and master stovetops. I loved cooking. truly. I had 100 dozen muffins in the wall of convection ovens, as well as several sheet cakes so I could make layers. I beat together more than 1500 eggs. and 91 lbs of bacon. I buttered 12 cookie sheets and bread and layed 108 slices per sheet and placed them on burners, bulk making toast. there were fresh croissants as well and home made cinabutter. by 430 in the morning. reakfast was prepped for cooking. and baked goods were cooling. I started the bacon of cast iron sheets layed over the burners, cooking 10 lbs at a time. and on the griddles I made all of the scrambled eggs. and separate griddles, I made fluffy homemade blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes. I also made parfaits and set everything up buffet style in the dining hall. I saved one egg, one slice of bacon and a pancake for myself. and brought the freshly brewed coffee, tee and fresh squeezed orange juice into the hall just as people entered. there were people I didn't recognize, I assume from the other packs for tonight's events. I scanned the room as I exited before going to start dinner preparations. I made subs for lunch with an assortment of sides, even though Luna didn't ask me to. wolves get hungry throughout the day, so i also prepared snacks. By 11:15, I had the dining hall cleaned up and the dishes all washed. I was focusing on seasoning and marinating several hundred steaks and didn't notice someone enter the kitchen.
"can you please get me something babe" I turned around and the shrill voice of Cora as she twirled her fingers over the chest hair that peaked out of the man's shirt. his bulbous arms and chest barely contained in the tight fit v neck white cotton t-shirt. the braided cord necklace hung lose around his neck where his luscious black hair hung long. his chiseled jaw clenched as I turned around afraid and shocked at their presence. I didn't expect Cora to be here. my eyes went up, locking on Anakin Blakely. his lavender eyes met mine. and he tensed.
"I'm so sorry alpha, I I notice you, I quickly said overtime my eyes. can I get you anything? I asked"
he exhaled as if holding in his breath. " my baby Cora would like a snack. please get it." his deep baritone voice grumbled. I scrambled to the fridge getting a cup of fruit and a soda and handed it to her. she smirked, letting go of the bowl, shattering it all over the floor. I stared surprised and dumb struck. wondering how this happened.
she fake gasped "baby, did you see what this ugly murderer did? she smashed one of your mothers bowls on purpose" she clung to him as though she were afraid.
he grabbed me by the collar of my shirt, hitching me off of my feet with a growl. I flinched, ready for the beating.
"I'm so sorry alpha." I stared into his eyes, mine wide with tears. different emotions flickered through his eyes. the colours changed. lavender to teal. black, and white. he let go, dropping me in a heap. "clean this up and get back to work. vile thing." he growled at me. Cora looked at him surprised, and pulled her leg back kicking me hard in the ribs. I spat blood immediately coughing as I felt several snap. I hurled over myself, applying pressure immediately. she pulled her leg back again, just as I looked up, ready for another, as he pulled her against him. "don't soil yourself with such filth my princess." he turned back to me "get back to work." and walked out, arm wrapped around Cora.
I coughed several more times grabbing the counter to steady myself and haul myself to my feet. I swept the broken glass and fruit up and washed my hands. I boiled several dozen pounds of potatoes and turned on the steamers, steaming hundred of broccoli florets with pepper and butter. I went outside to the line of grills and clicked them on, heating them. dinner rolls were baking and I iced the monstrous layer cake. I took the steaks and chicken breasts out to the grills and began cooking them. the seasonings and beef wafting through the air caught a lot of attention from passing wolves. qhen the meats were cooked and broccoli done, I mashed the potatoes adding cheddar cheese and chives to each serving with leftover bacon crumbles plating full plates and setting all of the tables. 530 rolled around and everybody was again gathering in the food hall. they demolished dinner and the apple pie a la mode that I had also made.
I cleared out the dining hall as everyone made their way to the event hall. I got the catering platters all ready and service maids came in each grabbing one. it was nearing midnight now. my sixteenth birthday. I grabbed a tray of mini grab cakes and champaign and made my way into the event hall in the uniform Luna Kashmir provided. Alpha Graham took the stage with his Luna by his side. he started a toast and commenced with handing over the alpha title at the stroke of midnight.
I immediately was struck by the mouthwatering scent of jasmine tea and rain. my eyes scanned the room. he was staring at me, as if knowing what was happening.
Alpha Anakin Blakly was my mate. my heart shattered immediately.
his eyes flicked back and forth from me to a smug faced Cora. I placed the trays down and took off. Artemis was watching me wondering what I was doing.
"I'm afraid. I don't want tonfeel the paid of rejection, and I'm sure you don't either Am. you know it as well as I do. that is what it is going to be. he is the alpha. I am a demoted less than Omega." Artemis scoffed at this.
"I will never be an omega." she was so proud of her heritage knowing she was strong despite all we have been through. she truly is my best friend and I thank the goddess for granting me such a wolf.
I made it to the Beta house and heard a heart wrenching howl through the air. an alpha howl. like he was in pain. I couldn't react before my body was breaking and morphing into Artemis. she was determined to save her mate.
"please stop Am. he's going to reject us. they think we are murderers." I tried reasoning with her.
"You never know Camille. he didn't hurt us when he hat the chance. he didn't yell at us. he didn't hit us." she said fiercely. she was right. she picked up speed searching for him. she knew he was no longer at the party. that he was outside. waiting for her. we picked up his scent and drowned in it, following desperately.
"mate" was all she kept thinking. chanting. and them a sharp stabbing pain knocked up clean off our feet into a clearing where our mate was buried into Cora. She was bent over a bench by the pond with her dress hiked up. he was taking long slow strokes. our eyes met and my body forced a shift back to my human form. She was moaning his name as he picked up.speed, hand wrapped firmly around her hips. I stared in horror. He was staring at me the whole time. different emotions dancing across his face. Cora turned around and noticed me shrieking.
I scrambled to my feet, standing before them naked. tears streamed down my cheeks.
"I Camille Louise StClair reject you Anakin Ambrose Blakely as my mate and other half. we shall no longer be bonded in this life or next. do you accept?" he stilled his.movements, stunned by the words I blurted without thought.
"I accept" immediately he wretched forward wither from the pain of rejection or his orgasm.
I ran, not looking back. I could hear " Are you f*****g kidding me. I'll kill that shut. you're MINE" Followed by what sounded like a slap. I wasn't sure. I kept running. till I got to my families makeshift grave at the cliff. I threw my head back crying. Artemis was quiet, the rejection pain stabbing. I apologized to her mentally and got nothing. I stood staring over the cliff where my family disappeared.
a rustling sound came from behind me. it was the former Alpha.
"can i speak to you?" he questioned giving a gentle yet stern tone.
I glanced back over the cliff, and turned to look at him.
"yes alpha, what is it?" I said, not meaning to sound rude. I'm just so exhausted. he handed me a box.
"your mother gave me this on your eighth birthday. I'm sorry as your alpha, I should have given it to you. or taken you in myself instead of shipping you to my cousins to foster you. I should have stuck up for you. I knew you didn't kill your parents. they left... they left you here to get stronger"
I stared at him in disbelief.
"your mother was the mood goddesses daughter. and so she lacked the ability to shift. giving birth to you and your brother. he was strong. and you came off as weak. she thought her lineage meant you would also be without a.wolf. and blamed herself. your father being a decendant of apollo meant that at least one of his children would be strong. since your elder brother was athletic, outspoken, and shifted early, they thought it was he. this was from the trip they disappeared on. a gift to you. a farewell. as well as the yearly updates hoping you don't blame them. They're aware of you're never getting a wolf. and of the pain you have endured. I am sorry. truly. they had hoped I wouldn't tell you until your 18th but I felt like your 16th year would be right." he looked uncomfortable and guilty. Artemis whined deeply. tears again streaked by cheeks. I looked between him and the makeshift Graves I had created for my family. this was unreal. this can't be true. I shook my head slowly, backing up. I looked at the alpha again. he had always been indifferent to me. and them I jumped. smacking the ground hard. everything went black...
