Lucy POV
My daughter has found her mate!! It’s all she’s been talking about since she gained her wolf. I’m so happy for her, but have always wondered how this will work given she is the only child we have. We knew if her mate was another alpha, we’d probably have to find someone else to take over one day. If she had not found a mate, Julio wanted her to lead. I look over at my darling Maria. She’s just staring out the window right now as we drive to the mall. I don’t think she feels like shopping anymore. I highly doubt she even wants to go to homecoming now since her mate can’t go.
When I walked in on Noah and Maria in the kitchen, it was like walking into another world. I don’t know how Maria found the strength to hold back, but I’m glad she did. Noah needs time to be around Maria more before he learns what we are. Then his parents and any other real close family will have to know as well. This isn’t going to be easy.
I reach over and squeeze Maria’s left hand with my right one. She squeezes back, taking a moment to turn and smile at me. She then turns her gaze back to the window.
“Maria. What kind of dress are you hoping to find?” This was my weak attempt to take her mind off of Noah. It failed.
“Mom.” She looks at me with unshed tears in her eyes. “I don’t think I want to go to homecoming tomorrow.”
I sigh. I was expecting this.
“Maria. You’ve been wanting to go to this dance. Are you sure you don’t want to show up for a little while with your friends?”
A single tear slips down Maria’s cheek.
“Mom. I appreciate you trying to make me feel better, but I think I’ll feel better with some junk food and a comedy movie tomorrow night instead. I don’t need friends coming over. If you don’t mind, will you join me? My friends won’t understand.”
I smile and answer her, “Okay sweetie. That’s what we’ll do. While we’re out now, well go by the store and find you snacks for the movie tomorrow.” I better pick up something extra for tonight because I have a feeling it’s going to be a long one.
Later that evening.
“Julio, I want to discuss something with you.”
My husband came home an hour ago and he is wore out from running the pack today. I know he doesn’t really mind that Maria’s mate is human, but he will want to know if Noah will be capable of helping run the pack. That entails respect. While our pack doesn’t look down on humans, many of our members just prefer to stay away from them.
“My enchanting wife. What do we need to discuss? Is it about the promises I made you earlier today? I’m not too tired to fulfill those services. In fact it’s my job as your husband to go above and beyond to satisfy you.” As Julio speaks, he is slowly making his way over to me in our bedroom. Unbuttoning his shirt as he stalks me. I grin at him and meet him halfway.
I help to pull his shirt all the way off and bend to lick him from his naval to my mark resting on his neck. He shivers under my touch. The sparks making him feel drunk. I stand upright again and lean in close to his ear and whisper, “Maria found her mate today.”
Talk about killing the mood. He staggers back from me. “What? Who? Why didn’t you tell me? Why aren’t they together? Did he reject my baby? I WILL kill him if has hurt her!!” I stand back and watch and listen to his little tantrum. Of course he would assume the worse since she’s alone tonight. Werewolves don’t date their mates. They typically jump their bones the minute they get a chance to. There are times when one rejects the other and it’s very painful for both parties. More so for the one being rejected. If they can’t accept it, sometimes they die.
I shake my head and hold up a hand so my husband knows to quiet down. He nods his head letting me know he’s ready to listen. “Maria’s mate does not realize he’s hers yet.” I can see the wheels turning in Julio’s head.
“So her mate is younger than her? That’s not so bad.” He shrugs. “Maria just won’t be able to date anyone else and it will be hard on her, but she’s an alpha, she’ll be fine.” Julio turns to lay on the bed. He pats the empty space beside him.
“Julio, aren’t you curious who her mate is?” I’m not making this easy on my husband.
“What’s the kid’s name Lucy?” I smile. Julio is getting impatient. He wants to have me in bed with him. He’s like this every single night.
“His name is Noah Sexton and he is not a kid.” I answer Julio. Julio begins grinding his teeth looking at me. He’s figured out I’m playing with him. “If he’s not a kid, then why is Maria not marked yet? What pack is this Noah from?” Julio gets up off the bed again to get dressed like he’s getting ready to hunt Noah down.
“Noah’s not part of a pack, honey.” Julio’s shoulders stiffen. Slowly he looks at me, “Please don’t tell me he’s a rouge. How in the heck would Maria even come across one?” I decide to go ahead and let him know what’s going on.
“Do you remember I had to call a plumber Julio?” I wait for him to nod his head before I go on. “Mr.Sexton, the human plumber, is unwell so he sent his son in his place. Noah was working when Maria came home from school. I found them in the kitchen staring at one another like no one else existed. He could feel something but the poor guy doesn’t know what it is.”
I watch Julio closely for his reaction. He stares for a moment at me and then heads out of our room and straight to Maria’s. I follow close behind, attempting to stop him. I can’t get a read on my husband right now and I don’t like it.
He burst through her bedroom door, scaring the piss out of Maria. “Maria Rose Sánchez. You WILL reject that boy at once. He is human, and while that’s not the complete issue, you are an alpha and he won’t be strong enough to stand by your side. If you were not of Alpha blood and meant to lead one day, you would have my blessing. But this cannot happen.”
I am stunned by his reaction. I knew Julio may be concerned, but this is the love of our daughter’s life. Her other half. He cannot force her to reject him. Maria does not have to be next alpha if she doesn’t want to be. It may be difficult for my husband to accept, but he’ll live.
I look over at Maria to see her reaction to her father. She’s angry and surprised, but doesn’t skip a beat when she meets her dad’s gaze and sternly tells him, “No!” She then rolls over and grabs her pillow to go to sleep. Julio wants to argue and he begins to, when I grab him by the ear and drag him out of her room.
I practically rip his ear off his head when I shove him on our bed. “Julio, what in the world do you think you’re doing?”
“Maria has to lead this pack. The Lightening Moon Pack has been absorbing packs all over. They won’t bother us if they know Maria will step up eventually, but if they find out I have no heir, they’ll come for our pack. You know how brutal they are. They have numbers we don’t have and they’re ruthless. We won’t be able to hold up against them Lucy.”
I can see the turmoil in my husband. I know how awful that pack is, and I don’t want that to happen to us either. We’ll just have to come up with another solution. I’m not forcing my daughter to reject her other half because of this.
