Laura did everything she could to keep breathing through her nose, refusing to look away from Connor’s green eyes no matter how badly she wanted to. She was terribly afraid if she let out the gasp her lungs were demanding, the tears she’d been fighting back would follow.
Forcing herself to mention the idea of Connor leaving had taken a hell of a lot out of her. Far more than watching Jim walk away.
