Chapter 10

1782 Words

Chapter 10 Connor tried to smile, but not too big or creepy, while doing everything he could not to trip over his own fool feet walking out onto the very nice porch at the Michaelson’s house. All while a swarm of seagulls or something equally huge and boisterous were playing tag somewhere between his heart and his stomach. He tried to focus on that feeling like he’d stepped into a home goods showroom for one thing, rather than on how unbelievably gorgeous Laura was standing there smiling at him. The color-coordinated lights and tablecloth and plates and bowls and cushions, and all the covered dishes shaped like acorns and gourds and little fall leaf candles felt homey, sure. Almost as if homey meant how the demo unit in a new apartment complex or subdivision might look, but not quite.
