But wait, I'm the Beta's Daughter...

As we shuffled down the stairs and into the open commons room headed to the pack meeting, Tate was quiet. I knew what he was thinking; he's anticipating the announcement that he is to take over training or be placed in a lower position. Thinking that Alpha Tomas would show any mercy or consideration towards the warriors that allowed the rogues so far into his precious territory would be absurd. As we filed into the crowd, what was left of the pack, Alpha Tomas glared at everyone for silence and began to speak. As he did, that heavenly aroma that I ran from started to creep my way. I instantly lost focus as the Alpha trailed on about the strength in unity and rebuilding.... my mind began to race. after a few minutes of an endless circle of fighting with myself I decided this was also, not the time and began to cover my scent and look over to Tate.      The words alliance and then a random assortment of names were being called from the Alpha and all I silently scolded myself for not paying attention. Suddenly I hear Tate's name called and his face went from his usual deep tan to a pale white. Faaack. What did I miss? Tate shuffles to the front and I hear my name called as well. Not knowing what the hay was going on I followed Tate's example and followed him through the many wolves seated in folding chairs towards the two head tables where the Alpha and Luna were collecting those called. I wanted to mind-link Tate and ask him what was going on, but both of ours eyes hazing over would give us away.      Alpha Tomas carried on and called 7 more wolves to the front. What he said next had me utterly shocked, "Meet your new Alpha, Alpha Ryan Stone of Clear Mountain Pack. You will be inducted into his pack in 2 days time. Those of you presented will pack your things tonight and be ready to depart by the morning."     I couldn't stop myself, the realization sunk in, "we WHAT?!" No sooner than the words had escaped my lips the door in the back opened filling the room with that delicious scent I was debating on hiding from not minutes ago. His bright blue eyes turned black immediately and he let out a growl to be heard by everyone in the Packhouse let alone the room.     "MATE" As he said it, the mystery voice inside my head that has ignored me since her first appearance growled "MATE". Oh my Goddess. This isn't happening. He was a bigger burly man, not heavy but built from much training or manual labor. He was wearing a light blue button up that contrasted well with his short, dark, brown locks. He practically stormed over to the tables and stopped in front of me. I looked him in the face, I should be submitting right now, what is the matter with me?   When he began to speak I was expecting him to claim me, his anger made me so nervous that he would mark me on the spot or punish me for the disrespect but I couldn't help myself. His deep rough voice was was almost filled with resentment as he spoke to me directly "Do we have a problem here?"      My heart dropped and so did my eyes. I heard a whimper in my mind from the rejection my illusive wolf was feeling from her mate.   "Better", was all he said before he walked over to Alpha Tomas who was practically burning daggers into my skin and I was sure that I now had it coming from both Alpha's. I looked over at Tate and his eyes were just wide looking at me, he looked straight on and began to grin.  What. Just. Happened?  I am the Beta's daughter. I can't just be traded off like a pawn, can I? And to a mate that doesn't seem thrilled to have me? Oh goddess he doesn't know I can't shift. A thousand scenarios racing through my head, not one of them pleasant.
