Cavern in the Mountain

    I feel my wolf fighting to take over and mark her right here. She does not deserve my mark. As she glides from station to station in a manner that looks effortless, I can see the sweat layering from her forehead. A real warrior would take it all in stride. I stay a station ahead of her to keep up on her evaluation, Alpha Tomas is going to be ripped a new one for this. This "beta warrior" he described in his mix of "elite" warriors is nothing but a joke. His alliance promised a replacement for my recently lost Beta. An alliance that would strengthen us both. I've gained nothing more than frontline liabilities. I will have to start deciding on a real replacement beta tonight since our newest isn't exactly fit for the position.

    As if Halie could sense I was looking at Tessa she pulled me down for a kiss on the cheek. She's got it in her head something is up. Better not to deal with her on this one. Halie is a psychopath on the battlefield and off, but she can bite her tongue and nod in the presence of others. I need an elite Luna who would not have to be protected every moment I am away. I grabbed her ass and glanced down to inspect it before looking over to make sure that Tessa saw us. I saw no sign she did but as she approached the dead lift she insisted they add an extra 50lbs. I chuckled and walked on knowing that I was not going to give her the satisfaction of displaying her anger before me and what meager strength she may have. I could feel Cross push forward to try to take us to our mate but I push him back and strengthen my grip on Halie's hand. 

    Halie looks up at me with the motion and as if to play it cool I link her, "My mother is requesting my presence, take notes of how they do and have them report promptly for sparring. The feast and induction ceremony is tonight and they need to have time to clean up after wolf form ranking so our guests don't smell them from a mile away". She gave me a short nod and a peck on the cheek. I took off through the gym door and instead of going upstairs to my office I went out the front door for a run at the base of the mountain. I will shake her from my mind. The Goddess made a mistake. I will choose my own Luna. 

    After about an hour of running Cross decided to stop and lay down in our favorite hidden sunspot. A few curves up the base of the mountain you find 2 tall grey and white rocks reaching towards the sky, they are lean and behind the left rock is a small path that you can't really notice until you are entering it. It leads down a ways but I always stop at the first cavern as there is a huge skylight at the top that shines through perfectly at this time of day. I allow the sun to warm my jet black fur as I allow myself to relax since I first saw her. I can still practically smell her, remember the sparks when I first touched her, the pain of my wolf when I decided she was worthless to us.... Cross as if realizing that he was helping me relax decided to force me to shift back at the thought of what we did to her. I regret it, but I thought she was lying to make the moment our wolves met special and It drove me mad in the moment regardless of Cross fighting me. I don't want anything special with her. The moon Goddess just stuck me with her anyway. F#ck. "I'm naked Cross, come on. Shift. Lets get back"

     "Accept Mate"

"You know better Cross. Now shift or our mother will come find us and drag us back personally". 

     "Mate is other half, we need mate. Mate Strong. You felt mates anger"

I mulled over Cross's words for a moment recalling how she practically demanded submission from us before entering the gym. A weak mate but for a moment she was fierce. Her eyes were not a normal black though. 

"Mate Strong" Cross reiterates. 

I shake it and remember a key fact. "She cannot shift. She cannot truly be the Luna this pack needs". 

"No mate, no Cross. You can walk home. When you're late your mother's wrath will be YOUR issue." He quickly blocked me off. 

I growled in frustration but new he was not going to waiver. Ugh. It is going to take way too long to get back.
