Feast

795 Words
The feast could be smelled once I walked out of my cottage door and I was instantly drooling. It was a little too cold for the flowy white dress but the flower on my wrist made it feel right, although my feet were pretty much instantly complaining that I was wearing my little black heels while trying to scale this path to the Packhouse. When I walked into the dining hall it was definitely smaller in scale than Crescent gatherings were, but there were rows upon rows of foods I had never seen before. Some of it made my stomach turn on sight and other piles had omegas rushing to keep the plates filled.      There was a long table placed at the head of the room seating the Alpha and his family. It sent a shiver down my spine to see Halie sitting next to him talking to another brunette across from hunter. To his left was an older woman with a slender frame and grey hair that was streaked with bits of blonde that had yet to wither in color. I could only assume this was his mother from the regal aura she displayed even while casually talking to Alpha Ryan.          Tate and I took our place at a sparsely decorated table near the entrance, I chose this seat hoping to evade that alluring scent but it was everywhere. HE was everywhere. I kept my focus on Tate and keeping my plate full but managed to overeat in a vain attempt to evade the alluring call of cinnamon rolls and cocoa from across the room. I needed to get some fresh air so Tate and I went out front for a moment. A couple she wolves swooned over the caramel skinned wolf in his black suit. His short curly black hair hung slightly over his eyes. He was such a ladies wolf for a man who didn't entertain ladies. He is verrrry easy on the eyes but just seemed to get more and more annoyed when they kept trying to talk to him. You could say it all went fine despite the gaze of a certain Alpha burning a hole in the side of my head for the majority of the evening. I could feel that Alina wanted to bite Halie's head off a couple times as she doted over Alpha Ryan during dinner but Tate helped me keep my head level and made some awful jokes at her expense. The inauguration into the pack followed by recitation of oath. I swear when Alpha Ryan approached me that he was going to shift. The battle in his eyes was apparent but he asked me to speak the oath and add my blood to the cup as he passed like he did with all of the other wolves. The pack run followed and Tate ditched it with me to head back to the cottage with me. Nobody would miss the wolfless beta female.      Alina had been quiet the rest of the night and I was becoming more confused on how to reach her. I didn't understand her. I took Tate down to the library and showed him the path. We decided we would explore it more in the daytime hours and not take any chances. He was more interested in the woodwork of the stairs and the intricate carvings on the outsides of the drawers. After a crappy horror movie and some of Tate's made-from-scratch brownies he went back to his cottage and agreed to meet me in the morning. I changed into a comfy tee and a pair of boy-cut underwear and crawled into bed, letting my thoughts drift to the faintest scent of cinnamon rolls and cocoa that had lingered in my cottage long after its source had disappeared.                         The clearing, I'm in the clearing... I'm running fast with the trees whizzing by. This time it's different.. it's not my own feet I feel smacking the earth beneath me.. White fur surrounds my hazy vision... I'm moving faster than I ever have, I have to find her... I see the figure I always seek.. As I approach my paws feel heavier and heavier. She's surrounded by a gorgeous white light. My black and white striped paws come to a halt regardless of how much I will them to move closer, desperate to view the silhouette inside the bright white rays. It's getting brighter, brighter, and a bright light overtakes me and cuts to pure darkness.     I turn from my side onto my stomach stirring from my dream. It's always the same but this time... Alina. I pause my thoughts after I slide my hands under my pillow, I hear breathing. My heart stops as I realize I am not alone in the cabin....
