Adam didn’t know how long he had been sleeping. He got up from the couch and stretched. The wall clock displayed the time as a minute past five in the afternoon. The blankets that covered him slid off of him. Lucky, his grandparents’ cat stared at him. “Hey, there little girl. How long you been there?” He scratched back of her ears, and the Persian purred. “I missed you.” “Well, look who’s awake!” His grandmother greeted Adam with a smile. “It’s late in the day, but you want some coffee?” Her hair had turned from blonde to silver at least a decade before, but she looked much younger than her actual age.
