Have his sister kidnapped?
What did he mean by that?
Why on earth would I have Mirabel kidnapped?
"When I'm talking to you, you respond!" Kyro exploded.
"I don't think she's going to talk, brother," Jett said, his vengeful eyes traveling from his brother to mine. "Just kill the b***h. We will find a way to rescue our sister."
"No, please," I croaked out. "I don't know what you guys are talking about."
"Oh, you don't?" Kyro raised a brow, his face devoid of emotion.
I shook my head in response.
Tears formed in my eyes as my chest began to cave from lack of oxygen. Kyro wouldn't loosen his grip. In fact, he seemed ready to snuff the living hell out of me and leave me broken and lifeless.
"Please," I begged desperately as Kyro's grip tightened around my neck.
They were punishing me for what I knew nothing about. Nothing at all.
Jett suddenly loosened his grip on my hair and stepped beside his brother. I noticed his claws elongating from his digits as his eyes turned a vengeful, darker red.
"I've lost all my patience." He lifted his claws, ready to strike me. And with fear, tears, and agony, I shut my eyes ready to receive his punishment.
Suddenly, a strained, distressed voice rang out from the living room doorway. "Stop!"
It was Gamma Vance.
I recognized that voice even with my eyes closed.
A breath of relief escaped my lips as I slowly opened my eyes to see him bolting over the distance in a few leaps and within seconds, he had his hand on Jett's wrist.
"This is none of your business, Brother." Jett snarled. "Back off."
"It is," Vance fired back. "I'm responsible for her. I brought her into this house and you guys have no f*****g right to touch her."
"Or what?" Kyro snapped.
The Gamma didn't give much room for thought. In the blink of an eye, he pushed Jett with so much brute force I never knew existed, sending his brother flying across the dining room to the living room.
And without wasting time, he yanked Kyro's grip from my neck and slammed him to the ground.
"f**k!" Kyro groaned.
Sudden relief washed over me. I crashed on the tiled floor and almost forgot how to breathe. A rasp clawed out of my throat as I dragged air back into my lungs.
As I rubbed my burning neck, hot tears kissed my cheeks.
"What the f**k is wrong with you?" A vicious Kyro barked at Vance. He had already gotten back on his feet and had his fists balled ready to attack. "Did you just attack your own brother for a b***h you met barely two days ago?"
"Well well,” Jett chuckled darkly as he advanced from the living room back to the dining area. "You'd better have a good reason for doing this, Vance."
In the heat of the situation, Gamma Vance and I exchanged a brief look. He had this protective gaze over me while my eyes were moist and filled with fear.
The air was already charged, thick with the aftermath of raised voices and barely restrained violence. I stood frozen, my heart pounding as the Storm Brothers faced off.
Vance planted himself in front of me, his broad back a shield I didn't ask for but desperately needed. "I do not want us to fight, Jett...Kyro."
"You should have thought about that before yanking me across the room." Jett retorted, his eyes dark and calculating, hostility simmering just beneath the surface.
Meanwhile, Kyro began to roll up the sleeves of his white shirt. "Is her p***y that good?" He demanded, his eyes piercing into Vance's soul so much that one could feel the burning intensity. "Did she f**k you so hard that you've lost your senses, brother?"
I swallowed hard, but remained quiet in my spot.
"Jett, Kyro...you both have to stop this please." Gamma Vance pleaded. "I don't want to fight you both."
Jett chuckled. "So you are willing to fight us because of her?" He pointed at me, lips curling in disdain. "Her?" He repeated as though he couldn't believe his brother would choose to protect me.
"She doesn't have anything to do with Mirabel's kidnapping." Vance asserted.
"And how do we believe that?" Kyro scoffed. "A strange girl just shows up in our house and our sister gets kidnapped. Yet, you see no connection?"
I wanted to speak. To proclaim my innocence to them and deny partaking in anything that had to do with Mirabel being kidnapped. For goodness sake! I didn't even know where she was headed when she left the house. But I knew this wasn't the right time to utter a word, so I remained mute.
"Step out of the way, Vance," Kyro said quietly, a lethal calm settling over him. "She needs to confess."
Vance's jaw clenched. "She has nothing to confess."
Jett laughed—low, ugly, and unhinged. "You've always been a pussy."
Then, he lunged.
Everything happened at once.
Jett slammed into Vance from the side, the impact cracking like thunder in the room. Chairs screeched as bodies collided with the dining table. Plates rattled...one slipped and then shattered.
The shattering sound ripped something loose inside me.
I screamed and bolted.
I barely remembered moving, just my legs giving away as I scrambled under the massive dining table, curling my knees to my chest as chaos exploded above me.
The brothers were at loggerheads because of me!
From my hiding place, all I could see were boots, claws, and blood splattering on the polished tile.
A plate shattered again.
Gamma Vance moved fast...too fast. I heard it before I saw it. Ceramic scraping the skin. He had torn Kyro's leather jacket and was now slashing his chest with the broken piece of the ceramic plate.
Kyro roared. "You motherfucking piece of s**t!"
Jett was rolling to his feet after he had just gotten his butt slammed by Gamma Vance for the umpteenth time.
The table jolted violently as Kyro stumbled back, and I caught a glimpse of it through one of the chair legs. Gamma Vance had now gripped a jagged shard of plate, blood dripping from his hand as he drove it into Kyro's side.
The scream that followed wasn't human.
Jett went berserk.
He tackled Gamma Vance, sending them crashing into a sideboard. Woods splintered, glass shattered. The dining room dissolved into a blood-soaked battlefield.
I pressed my hands over my ears, shaking.
This is my fault, this is my fault.
I should have interfered with Ma’am Stella when Mirabel was about to leave. Maybe then, she wouldn't have gotten kidnapped and the brothers wouldn't be fighting because of me.
Kyro recovered with a snarl, blood soaking through his shirt as he charged back into the fight. He landed a brutal punch to Vance's jaw while Jett pressed his weight on him, obstructing him from getting on his feet.
My breath hitched.
They were going to kill him.
It was two against one, and Gamma Vance was losing to his brothers.
"I should kill you!" Kyro spat. "But I'm going to let Jett finish you off."
I watched him amble out of the dining room, a line of blood trailing after him as he drew farther and farther away.
"Get up you bastard!" Jett grabbed Vance by the collar, forcing him to his feet. He didn't even allow Vance to get a proper stance before driving his knee into his stomach again and again until blood spluttered out of Gamma Vance’s mouth.
"No," I whispered, tears streaming freely now.
Despite the blood, despite being badly beaten, Vance fought back like a cornered beast. He headbutted Jett, cracking his nose.
"You piece of s**t!" Jett cursed as he clutched his busted, bloodied nose.
He growled loudly and pummeled his large frame into Vance, propelling both of them to the ground.
I heard and felt the impact of Gamma Vance's head as it collided with the tile. He groaned weakly and coughed up more blood while Jett scrambled to his feet.
"Just make sure nothing happens to our sister." Jett seethed before staggering away.
Once he was out of the dining area, I crawled out of my hiding place to Gamma Vance. His face had been beaten to pulp, tiny cuts and bruises all over his skin, and blood was seeping from a gash on his scalp.
I almost forgot about my own pain and began to feel his as I gathered him into my hands. He pushed me away and then dragged himself to his feet, swaying dangerously.
“Please let me help,” I offered, rushing to his side and slinging his arm over my neck.
This time, he didn't push me away.
