Chapter Three
Jeremy spared her a glance when she said nothing else, "what about you?"
"I'm a stripper" she deadpanned and he nodded, no need asking again, he thought.
They arrived at the coffee shop and luckily Trixie was free at the moment.
"Her baby girl" Kate cooed walking up to her with Jeremy behind.
Trixie looked up when she heard a very familiar voice, she was shocked when she saw the person behind her and her eyes were locked to him, he smiled at her just as Kate reached her.
"How are you? This bastards weren't stressing you right?" Kate asked, bringing her gaze back to her.
"I'm fine" Trixie replied and then looked at Jeremy again.
"How are you" he asked and she nodded "sorry I came uninvited but it’s just that you missed your checkup and I wanted to know why, hope I'm not crossing my boundary as your doctor?"
"It's alright, I appreciate your concern" she smiled, he looked around him and then at her.
"Can we sit?" He asked and she nodded, they walked to a booth while Kate stayed to chat with friends.
"Can I get you anything?" She asked as he sat down and smiled before shaking his head.
"No I'm good." Trixie sat down too, she looked at him, both of them waiting for who will go first, "so" he cleared his throat, "you work in the day and also at night, isn't that stressful?"
She smiled, "I'm used to it."
"But is your body?"
"It has to if not I won't be able to meet up with the payment for its treatment."
"So you are overworking to raise money for your hospital bills?" He asked and she remained silent, "what if I say I will take care of the bills will you stop?"
That got her looking at him, "I can't ask that from you."
"But I want to do it, you are not asking me."
"You are my doctor."
"Is that all you see me as, your doctor? What if I say I want to be more, what if I say I want to be close to you, to be a friend like Kate, then will you let me?" He asked softly.
Trixie sighed and closed her eyes for a moment, "Kate and I have come a long way."
"What about us, we have known each other since high school."
"Yes and we were not practically friends."
"What if I decide to change that, to be a friend, then will you let me? I have always wanted to be your friend Trixie, and now is when you need it the most, you need all the help you can get. If you continue like this then you might not even last up to six months, you need to give your body time, to give it all the rest it can get, to not stress it, and if the bills is the reason then let me take care of it," he offered, his heart beating rapidly as he waited for her response.
"Jeremy, I understand your care and concern but I don't really need it, just like you said of me lasting up to the six months, I don't want to hurt someone else, I know the pain and hard times I'm giving Kate, I can't start it with someone else," she gulped, closing her eyes once more before looking at his deep blue ones but to look away after.
"It won't be a hard time to me, I just want to help in any way I can, I want to be a friend, a close one."
"Can I get back to you? I need some time to think on that" she said and he sighed before nodding.
"Sure, sure."
"I need to get back now, my break is almost over."
"I need to return to the hospital as well." They both slid out of the boot and she walked him out to his car.
He turned to her when they were at his car, "am I to tell Kate I'm leaving, did she need me to drop her off?"
Trixie shook her head, "not necessary, we will both be leaving here for work."
"Easy with the stress Trix, you don't want to hurt yourself more."
"Thanks Jeremy."
Jeremy sighed, "I hope I see you soon for your checkup."
"I will try to meet up," she smiled.
"OK then, bye," he commented, even though he really wanted to pull her into his arms and whisper to her, 'everything will be alright love, I'm here now', but he knew he can't, at least not now, he doesn't want to scare her off.
"Bye."
Sighing, he turned and got into his car before looking at her again, "don't stress yourself too much." She gifted him her smile which he loves so much before nodding and at that, he returned the smile and reversed then drove off while she walked back into the shop.
