(Sapphire’s POV) As soon as Luke left my husband’s home office, the energy in it shifted. The air, the silence, everything thickened like a fog. Damian didn’t move for a long moment. He stood by the desk, eyes directly on me, his hands buried in his pockets, his head slightly moved to the side as though he was studying me. I swallowed and shifted restlessly on the sofa. Why did it suddenly feel like I had to touch him? “What?” I croaked. He spoke after a full minute, voice low, laced with a sharp edge. “So… was he entertaining enough for you?” I blinked. “What do you mean?” He took a step closer, his dark eyes pinning me. “Your best friend. Luke, right?” His mouth curved, but it wasn’t a smile. “You laughed more with him in five minutes than I’ve ever seen you laugh here.” “Damian, please don’t…” “Don’t what?” His voice was silky and smooth. “Don’t notice? Don’t care? You looked… happy.” “I was just…” “Entertained?” He cut me off again, moving so close I had to move my head back to meet his eyes. “Tell me, blue eyes… is that what you want? Someone who amuses you?” I opened my mouth, then froze. His gaze wasn’t on my eyes anymore. It was fixed unyielding on my lips. My pulse stuttered. “You’re being ridiculous.” I could hear my heart beating as fast as drum. “Am I?” His voice had dropped to a growl, the kind that vibrated in my chest. “Because all I can think about right now…” His hand lifted, fingers grazing the side of my jaw, “…is how much I hate seeing another man make you smile.” Before I could say a word to retort, before I could even breathe, his mouth was on mine. Hot. Demanding. Nothing like the rough, possessive kiss in the hallway before. This was filled with want. It felt reckless, as though he was devouring me, claiming me piece by piece. I gasped against his lips, but he didn’t give me room to think. His hands caught my waist and in one effortless motion, he lifted me onto his desk. Papers scattered onto the floor of the office, the sound sharp in the silence, but neither of us cared. “Damian… I tried to speak, my voice breaking. Not like I knew what I wanted to say. “Don’t say my name like that,” he rasped against my mouth. “You’ll undo me.” His lips claimed mine again, harder this time, pulling a restrained whimper from me. His hand slid higher, fingers brushing the curve of my breast through my dress. My body betrayed me, arching into his touch. I wanted more. “You feel that?” he whispered as he brought my hands to his suit pants, his breath hot on my ear. “That’s what happens when you drive me insane.” I shivered, clutching at his shoulders. “We shouldn’t… we shouldn’t be doing this.” His mouth moved down the column of my neck, tasting, biting, soothing. “Don’t tell me what we shouldn’t do, Sapphire. Not when you’re trembling for me.” “Damian…” My protest turned into a sharp inhale when his hand finally closed over my breast, his thumb brushing over the sensitive peak. His answer was a low, rough sound in his throat before his mouth followed his hand. Heat shot through me as his lips closed over me, through fabric first, then pushing it aside with impatient hands. A broken moan escaped me, and I slapped a hand over my mouth, horrified. Damian lifted his head slightly, his dark eyes blazing with hunger. “Don’t hide from me. Not here. Not now. I want to hear you moan long and hard.” “I…” My voice trembled, but his mouth silenced me again, fierce and unrelenting. His hand gripped my hip, pulling me flush against him as if even an inch of distance was unbearable. And then… There was a sharp knock at the door. The sound pierced throughmy hazy foggy brain instantly and brought me back to reality. My eyes flew open, my body jerking back. My husband went still, his lips still hovering near mine, his breath ragged. Slowly, deliberately, he pulled back. The heat in his gaze didn’t fade, though, instead it burned, and simmered under the surface. Another knock. “Boss?” Damian’s mouth curved downwards, obviously not in amusement but in irritation. His hand smoothed down my dress, covering me again with casual precision, though his eyes never left mine. “You’re flushed,” he murmured, fingers lingering a moment too long on my neckline. “Good. Very good.” Why did he suddenly look so Pleased with himself? Ughhhh I swallowed, completely undone, unable to form a single coherent word. But at least I could roll my eyes, so I did. He smirked. “Come in,” he barked at whoever was at the door, his voice cold and in control again, like nothing had just happened. The door opened, and his bodyguard stepped inside, looking oblivious to whatever might have happened here, but I had a feeling he knew. “Sir, there’s a lady here to see you.” I watched as Damian leaned back against the desk, arms folded, expression unreadable. “A lady?” “Yes, sir. And she says it’s urgent and cannot wait.” I sat frozen on the desk, cheeks burning, lips swollen, my heart still hammering in my chest, scared of moving so the bodyguard wouldn’t be interested in looking at my side. Though I had a feeling he was too scared of my husband to even look at me. Damian glanced at me once. And just once, before turning back to his man. “Fine. Bring her in.” And just like that, the moment was gone. I couldn’t help but wonder who this woman was. For her to just come into his house uninvited and demanded to see him. She was surely someone he knew very well. Why was I feeling jealous?
