It was September already and a new session was starting, I was going through my luggage hoping not to leave a thing out, we were not going to be allowed to come home to pick up petty things.
I was excited to start my hostel life partly due to the fact that I bought lots of new stuffs like clothes, sandals, shoes, books and so on and I couldn't wait to try them all. On the other hand, I was also scared of leaving the life I had lived since I was born but then I was happy to be free to do what I want, no more chores, no more controlling parents and there was going to be nothing to stop me from having a boyfriend like my mates did.
"Tiwa, won't you be fast and let us go? Your mates have resumed since yesterday and you are here on a Monday morning wallowing in sluggishness." My mum shouted from outside and I could already imagine her angry face.
I rushed out dragging my last black box with so much strength and force. The box was heavy so I tripped at the entrance. It was still dark outside since it was just five minutes to six.
"Leave it, let Ogbu help you. Abi do you want to kill yourself?!" Mummy said as Ogbu, one of our neighbours who was a university undergraduate came to help me.
"Mummy, won't you miss me?!" I asked mum as soon as I got into the car.
My mum started the engine and zoomed out of the compounds onto our street.
Just when I thought she didn't hear my question or worse just decide to ignore it, she replied me.
"Why will I miss you?" You are going to a hostel within the same state not outside the country. Stop acting as if you will never come back." Mum said as silence engulfed the air.

We got to Royal Priesthood High School tall gate and zoomed into the large and spacious compound. Since it was still early, there were only a few students trooping in on their feet and some being dropped in cars.
The hostel was still a little bit distant from the main school but within the same compound so mum drove further past the school buildings to the girls' hostel area which was painted Red and blue like our school uniform. It looked newly renovated than the last time I saw it.
The hostel buildings were much but a small building was the first we came across, the hostel was behind it.
The small building happened to be the hostel head supervisor's office.
My mum and I got out of the car as I took my backpack and hurried after my mum into the building.
"Good morning ma, how may I help you?" A robust woman seated behind the desk greeted my mum warmly and gestured to her to have a seat.
"Morning, I brought my daughter, she's to resume in the school hostel today." My mum replied looking around the office which was spacious and luxurious.
"Oh! Okay, you shouldn't have bothered! Don't worry, I'll handle her, you can go." The woman said smiling while I rolled my eyes.
If she didn't follow me, how will my stuff get here, will I carry them on my head?
"I brought her belongings for her, it's still in the car."
"Oh Okay! I'll ask some junior students to bring it here for her. Bimpe, get two students to take down the luggage from this Mummy's car and be fast!" She commanded a lady who I guessed was the messenger around here and she ran to carry out the order.
"You! Move closer!" She snapped at me as I hurriedly moved closer to her table.
Mum already left to help bring out my stuffs.
"What class are you in?!"
"S.S 2 ma."
"Oh, okay, science class?"
"Yes ma."
"What's that name of yours?" She continued asking not even glancing up at me, she was focused on a long sheet on her table.
"Tiwa ma... Falade Tiwalade Zoe."
She spotted my name on the list and ticked it.
"Okay, you will be in the females lodge, block A, room Five, bunk down. Here's your hostel ID card and your wardrobe padlock and key, make sure you keep it very safe, I don't want to hear complains about stolen things. Your room is filled up already so the last available wardrobe will be yours, no arguments. You are dismissed." The woman concluded after all her lectures.
I was about to leave when she stopped me;
"Are you here with your buckets?"
"Yes ma."
"Okay, you will have to come here later to register them, also your stuffs will be brought here first to be thoroughly checked just in case you are here with a stove, electric cooker, iron or any other electrical appliances. Even foodstuffs that need to be cooked before being eaten aren't allowed. I hope you didn't bring such things?!"
"Not at all ma!"
"Okay, brilliant! You can go!" She said dismissing me again.
I was about to leave when I remembered that I didn't even know my whereabouts here.
"Sorry ma but I don't know how to find my room ma." I said with my shaking voice.
"Ahnahn! Aren't you an old student? Why haven't you ever visited your school's hostel? Anyways, Queen!" She shouted calling a girl from a short distance through the large opened window on a side of the building.
It was the one and only Ogar Queen, she heard her and came running.
"Thank God! You are in room five, block A, right?" The woman asked her while I was mentally shaking my head hoping that it wasn't true, I didn't want to share a room with that girl.
"Yes ma." Queen answered obviously unsatisfied at the fact that she was called to carry out an order.
"Okay, take her to your room and show her around." The woman said looking down at the pile of papers on her table.
Wait, so I am in the same room with Queen?! Heaven was definitely against me.
I threw one of the numerous questions I had in mind at her immediately we were out of the supervisor's office. "How many roommates do we have?!"
"The question should be how many students share a room." She corrected while I rolled my eyes.
I forgot how controlling and correcting Queen could be. She was the best student in English language in my class and one of the few students in my school that speaks fluent English like a British and she throws it at everyone's face every time she has the chance.
Grammar madam!
"Okay, whatever, just answer!" I snapped impatiently.
"We are ten in a room which means we have five bunks in each room." Queen said simply as she walked further ahead leaving me being.
I halted!
How is that even possible? Nine roommates?
And one of them just happened to be someone I didn't even like, who knew who the rest of them was going to be?
I guess I just had to find out.
