A sudden silence fell between us, heavy and loaded with the weight of his words. I hadn’t expected this kind of honesty, and for a moment, I wasn’t sure what to say. Chris’s gaze held mine, steady and unguarded, revealing a side of him I hadn’t seen before. It left me feeling strangely vulnerable. I took a sip of my drink, trying to steady my thoughts, but my mind kept racing, replaying his confession over and over. I had come here to confront Nicolas, to demand that he make a choice, to seduce him to choose me if I had to, but here was Chris, someone who had never truly left my heart, telling me that he couldn’t move on. It stirred something deep inside, an ache that I had buried in my pursuit of Nicolas. “Chris… I don’t know what to say,” I finally managed, my voice barely a whisper.
