I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. Of course, it was Lisa, my one and only nosy neighbour. Who else would have the nerve to knock like a debt collector this early in the morning? I opened the door just a c***k, and sure enough, there she was—curly-haired, pajama-clad, and holding a steaming cup of coffee. Her eyes squinted at me suspiciously. “You look like you saw a ghost,” she said, taking a sip. I forced a smile, pulling the door open wider. “Just wasn’t expecting company at dawn.” Lisa breezed past me like she lived here, setting her coffee down on the counter. “It’s eight, not dawn,” she corrected, then gave me a once-over. “You look terrible.
