Chapter 21: Whitney vs Whitney

1248 Words
~Adam's P.O. V~         Ever since King Nathaniel told us what had transpired between him and Count Vladimir, we had no choice but to do as we were asked. Did I want to help Matthew? No. I wanted to let him rot and die here so Anika could be mine. Then again, I am sure her dad would have wanted Whitney to be her betrothed, the drake had more going for him, I guess. A stable home without war, or even being out in the open. Here I was though, helping my enemy, the thought made me want to vomit. Yet, that Vampyre girls words kept ringing in my head. She blames us for the killings? That didn't seem right, the stories we were told as pups said it was the Vampyres who attacked the humans. 'If it weren't for Matthew, I would have died to those wolves.' I needed to investigate this, so for the time being, I needed Mathew alive to hear his side of the story. "You okay?" Quinn asked. "No, man. I'm helping the lee- Matthew instead of killing him. There is something else, though. The Vampyre chick said she saw the wolves and nearly killed her. Do you think she was lying?" "I don't have an answer for you. Once we get back to the castle, Matthew can explain more." "Yeah." As much as I want my focus to be on my beloved, I had bigger game to chase. Whitney stayed behind to fend off the attackers while Nathaniel flew Matthew out of here. Quinn and I were killing lower ranked Omegas as we sped away from their pack house. Orion would know who did this and surely would come for my parents. I sent up a silent prayer to The Moon Goddess so they could be safe. But, with Orion, who knew what he had up his sleeves. ~Whitney's P.O. V~         This pack was huge, I didn't know what to do, I drowned more than a good sized group, but they kept coming. I used my water breath countless times over to the point where I was starting to run out of magic energy. So, I landed and started biting off heads of wolves as they ran towards me. I didn't want to kill them, they just left us with no options. The cries, howls and screams of Werewolves were almost unbearable. I ran farther into the midst of the wolves den until I saw a giant wolf, his jaws were snapping and dropping drool. Teeth bared, he stepped closer to me. I shifted back to myself. "Come on, Mutt. Change back so I can see who I am facing." I challenged him. At first, it didn't seem like he'd comply, he just kept his distance and snapped at me. After 5 minutes of this, he changed back. He wasn't a bad looking guy either, dyed blue hair, green eyes, slightly paler than me and yet he seemed shorter. "My name's Commander Whitney Lakeford, Head Trainer for this pack. And whom might you be?" Sharing the same name as a flea ridden bastard. Now that's just wrong. "Ha! I guess we have a name in common. Prince Whitney. The one who will be kicking your ass for hurting my woman!" His expression became confused. "I did no such thing to a dragon." He crossed his arms. "If avenging your love is what you came here to do, then I'm afraid you got the wrong pack, son." "Anika. Her name is Anika Butler!" I shifted back. "You're her mate?!" He yelled. His eyes widened. "That blond haired brat made my best friend a rogue!" He shifted back into his wolf. Good, I can kill him at full strength. I roared and snapped my own jaws at him. Being pack trainer doesn't mean squat when you've trained next to a Celestial Dragon. Anika and I had the same master. When she said she learned three types of martial arts, I was intrigued at first, but listening to one of her stories about Master Gintama, I finally found something I could grasp onto with her.          We circled each other, for a while, then he made his move, he leapt from the ground trying to grab my tail. Knowing his move, I swung it back then forward quickly, surprising him. I hit him, making him fly into the houses wall, denting it. I took my chance and used the last of my magic to try and drown him. Right before the water hit, he moved away from the spot. Before I knew it, he clamped down on my neck, drawing blood as his teeth pierced my scales. I bellowed in pain before throwing him into the nearest tree and crushing him. He let go and fell to the ground, I am out of magic power, so I did the only thing I could. I charged at him with my horns pointed to his chest. He kept dodging my attacks, but it was all he could do.          I needed water, I needed to drink to regain my magic. My stamina was slowing down, but so was his. we are on equal footing, bloodied and still going. I wanted to end this already, why was he so hard to take down? I had to shake the thoughts from my head and focus. This is for Anika, this is for her suffering from these mongrels. The thought of this pack trying to get her for almost a year now burns me to the core. No, I had to finish, this and I had to finish it now. I gave out a roar that scared even myself as I thought of Anika in their claws. I saw him covering his ears and it was then I decided to take him down for good. I charged at him with my own teeth bared and clamped on his spine. Taking my claws and holding down the writhing wolf I tore his body in half. Yes, I killed the other Whitney. I let the front half drop as I saw a young girl stare at me in horror. s**t.  "DADDY!" She screamed at me. The girl ran towards me and began hitting my wing. "Why?! Why did you kill him?!" She cried. She waited for an answer for a while. "Tell me!" I shifted back to my original form. "He tried to kill my love, little one. And me." "He was all I had left!" She cried out. "He... He was all I had left..." I saw her fall to the ground in tears. What have I done? "I'm sure someone here will take you in, little one." "No! Th-They won't. D-Daddy was the one that cared for me... A-Alpha Orion will kill me." What?! Was this true?! "Why would he do that?" I asked. "I would be considered an orphan... Alpha Orion hates orphans. Says that we would be illegitimate to the pack." She sniffled back more tears. Oh, gods, what have I done? "I'm sorry, little one. I-" I had no idea Orion was this cruel. "You have to take me! I'm your responsibility now!" Crying again, "My daddy's murderer... Is now my caretaker..." The realization hit her. She couldn't have been older than 10. "I'm sorry. Had I known, I would have stopped the fight and asked him to think about you." I was truly sorry for what I just did. If she hadn't come out of hiding... Damn these mutts!
