Chapter 14: The Bad and the Worst   ~Orion’s P.O. V~             The failed attempt at gaining Anika had me rethink my plans. From what Bastian had informed me, she is not just a wolf, but a dragon too. He was hiding some information from me, this much I can tell. But what that information is beyond me, when he told me of the dragon, that had me concerned. Tapping my finger on my desk, thinking on who this dragon was. And who was the wolf. Jacob nor Lilliana ever smelled like Werewolves, then again, the scent fades the longer the wolf is with humans. I will have to get to the bottom of this, having a dragon protect her makes this almost impossible. A knock on my door pulled me out of my thoughts. “Come in.” I called out. It was my son, “Dad? You asked to see me?” He sat down in one of the chairs across from my desk. “Yes. Did you take a good look around that Leech’s castle?” Looking at my son with stern. “I did. They were already leaving the castle, though no one knows why. I doubt we have a spy in our ranks.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Never think anything is beyond the possible.” I straightened myself and pulled out a picture of Anika and the bloodsucker. Handing it to my son. “Whoa. She is sexy.” The photo I handed him had Anika and Matthew in full body portrait. She was wearing a short white dress with a braid and he was wearing a gray three-piece suit. They were kissing each other, which made me sick to my stomach. “Bastian has informed me of how strong she is. She is half dragon, Killian.” I placed my hands on my desk and stood. “And my general has informed me that she is of Alpha descent.” I had to push my son to want her. Having her as an ally would mean I could take over Oregon and perhaps all of the Northwestern packs. She was my key for domination. “She’s a hybrid?!” He shouted, “I thought those were illegal and sentenced to death!” He gripped the photo as he looked at it. “She is. However, now that she is of age, she can challenge for the titles.” I go over to him and take him under my arm. “Think about it, having her for an Alpha Female, no one would dare question our power again. You are the second most powerful wolf, Killian.” I turn him to look at me, “Having a woman with that much power could easily put us as the most powerful pack in the United States.” I smiled at him, “Yellow Stone wouldn’t have a chance either.” I saw a glint in his eyes as he thought it through. “So, you’re saying that if I gain her for a chosen mate, we could use her to take over other packs?” He asked me. “Yes.” I looked at my son with pride. “Problem is how? We know nothing of dragons.” He sat back down. I had to think, who would know best about dragons and their weakness’? I suppose Bastian, but would he be willing to cooperate? “Let’s ask the only person that has been alive longer than I.” I snap my fingers, one of my guards comes in. “Get me Bastian.” He saluted me and left. Several moments later, the devil himself walks in. “Oh? You have need of me again?” He laugh maniacally. I shake my head at this insane old man.   ~Killian’s P.O. V~             After talking with that lunatic, we finally came up with a plan to get this Anika girl. After hearing my father talk about her with praise, I had to admit that he was right. Having her for a chosen mate would mark us as a very powerful pack.             Power is all you idiots care for. You know, if the information is correct and she is a hybrid, we could die by her hands alone.             Yeah, yeah, whatever. Point is, she could do so much for you and I, Ash. I mean, look at her. I held the photo up again as I was walking to the training grounds. I hated seeing this Leech attached to her. I opened the frame, threw it away and ripped the photo in half. Better. Now do you see? Ash: Never said I didn’t. Would I be happy to have a she-wolf with her strength? Of course. Just don’t do anything rash, please? I Like living.             I won’t, this is carefully being planned out. We know a little more than we did before, after all. Ash: That doesn’t mean s**t, Killian! In order to find her we would have to get someone to track her. Last I checked, our trackers are already spending their missions trying to find Adam Davis. You know? The guy who killed our mother!             To be fair, we killed a lot on their territory too. I only need one tracker. Not a group. Ash: Fine. Hurry with it so the Alpha doesn’t find out. He went to the back of my mind as I continued to walk through my home. I knew of one tracker more loyal to me than my father. I only need to ask for his help. I may be able to convince him to be sneaky about this.             I got to the training ground to see the warriors hard at sparring, thankfully, I found who I was looking for. I approached my friend and tapped on his shoulder. Looking to his partner, I motioned for him to leave. The other guy gave a bow and left me with my friend. “’Sup, Kil?” He asked. “Cas, I have a job for you. You are my best tracker and I need that right now.” He followed me into the woods. “Sure.” I showed him the picture of my now chosen she-wolf. “You need me to track Miss. Butler again?” “Not just track. Spy on. I need to know everything about her. What she likes, what she hates. Details. All of it.” I straightened my back. “Shouldn’t be too hard. I did it once before and lead that Davis mutt in circles. Got a piece of her clothing.” Cassidy took the photo and left the area towards the house. Perfect, now all I have to do is wait. I headed back to the house and to my room where I could prepare for the she-wolf/she-dragon. I will need silver chains and leverage for her to accept me.   ~Matthew’s P.O. V~             The sun was setting on the horizon, Whitney had come to talk to me about Alpha Davis. To hear he is my second and final person to win my queens hand had my undead blood boiling. I may have been polite to the boy, even friendly, it by no means that I am fond of him. He told me that a brawl broke out between him and Alpha Davis, causing her to wake up. I wanted nothing more than to go to my queen and let her sleep in my arms once more. Yet, to my utter disappointment, I could not. Respecting the rules that have been given and ones I made for myself, I would only be with her when she wants me to be. I was respecting this challenge, oh, how I despised it, though. A knock on my door had me turn around. Seeing my queen standing there brought me great joy. “My love?” Something was off about her. “Matthew… I can’t sleep. Between the fight with Adam and Whitney and you not being there, I am exhausted to the point where I am awake.” She explained. My dearest in this condition had me worried. “Can you use that spell thingy you did on me when we met?” She came over and leaned her head on my chest. “I cannot. That particular talent wasn’t really mine.” She looked up at me with a raised eyebrow. “You see, my dear, that was due to the giant squid. Mixing his blood with mine, helped me create a scent, one that lulled others into a dreamless sleep. Without my squid here, you would just be smelling my blood.” I tried to explain to her. “Uh huh. Was that a no?” I chuckled. I looked upon my beauty, her eyes had dark circles around them. “That was a no. Come on, love.” She groaned. “I can’t. I meet with Adam in an hour. This whole thing sucks.” I began to laugh at her whining like a child would. “My queen, you need sleep.” I tried to pull her in the direction of her room. She wrapped herself into me. “I barely know either of those guys. But I know you. Why can’t I just say I choose you over them and get it done and over with?” I wrapped one arm around her and began stroking her fine blond hair. “Because the powers beyond ours are, in a way, experimenting with you and Mr. Quinton. As far as anyone is concerned, you two are the only hybrids to live past their first year of birth.” I had to admit that even I was intrigued with these two. I would never say it to her, but she was also my experiment for all of this. When her wolf appeared and Adam was close, she felt nothing, was that due to the Moon Goddess? Or her dragon counterpart? Either way, I was curious. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, that whole ‘Everyone hate on humans and hybrids’ thing is just wrong. It’s called being a spieciest.” Bursting with laughter at her made up word, I held her closer. “What’s so funny?” “Darling, that is not a word.” My laughter dying down. “Yes, it is, I made it, so it exists now.” I kissed her on the head. I loved her ever so. It indeed does pain me to hear that I have to share her with 2 others. With the lack of sleep, she has had, her child like attitude shows off more. “Come on, Matthew. Come to bed with me again.” As much as I wanted to acquiesce her wants and needs, I had to decline her. “That wouldn’t be very sportsman like of me, my love. Promise me, though, when you get back from your time with Alpha Davis, that you go straight to bed?” I cupped her cheeks and made her look at me. “Fine.” She got a curious glint her eyes, “That reminds me, did you and dad find any more on what I am?” Oh, dear. I was hoping to avoid that question. “Yes and no. So far, there have been 2 different versions of the same dragon. Both discounted you as nothing more than a rumor.” She leans her head against my chest and breaths out heavily. “So, I am just a complete mystery, then. Great.” She yawned and held on to me. “It seems so, love. I will help out tonight and see if I cannot find more information on your dragon.” I lifted her chin to look at me again, landing my lips on hers ever so gently. Every kiss we had; her breath was seen. This was no different. “Ado, my love. And try to have fun tonight.” I hugged her once again before letting go. She moved away from me. “I will try.” She turned away from me and began walking to the grand hall. I hardly noticed Alyssa was standing next to m until I feel her finger prodding my arm. “Alyssa, please, you know how that irritates me.” I turn my attention to her. “I know, which is why I did it.” She crossed her arms as she looked at me. “There is something you may want to see, my king.” She wanted me to follow her. When we got to Anika’s room, Alyssa had figured out how to get the recordings from our castle cameras. Anika really did change life there. It was a good change. She played the video. “This was taken just minutes after we left.” There stood one of my old enemies. Bastian wasn’t the only problem to escape those cells. “The Crawler? How did it escape?” I asked. “Not by those wolves,” She looks up at me. “I think Bastian did it himself. To gain another to follow him.” The Crawler, a being that I have killed many times. It’s another Fae created creature with no mind, no body even. I had its soul locked away by the help of a black witch. There it stood, its black aura looking straight into the camera. Its voice was deeper than that of a dragon. “I see you and I will kill you this time. Mark my words.” It stretched itself out to the camera. Only to penetrate through the television. “Matthew. Hastings.” “Alyssa. Go get the others.” I stood ready to fight. “Right away!” She got up and ran.   ~Nathaniel’s P.O. V~             Going through books after books trying to find more on Anika’s dragon had us all worn out. I saw her walking by, she looked equally as tired. I got up from my chair and went to my daughter. She was in a trance of sorts. “Daughter?” “Hm?” She looked startled at first, “Oh, hi dad.” She yawned. “Is there something wrong?” “Oh, no. I am just tired. The fight from earlier has me exhausted.” She tilted her head, “No luck yet?” “Unfortunately, not. Why don’t you go rest, sweetheart?” “I am meeting Adam in like 30 minutes, dad.” “Stop calling him that!” Quinn yelled. “Bro. I am not in the mood to deal with that.” She countered. I looked to my son. “Son go find-” I stopped midsentence when I heard the Vampyre girl yelling for help. She was running down the corridor with her Vampyric speed. “Matthew is in trouble!” This had Anika wide awake in seconds, without waiting for instructions, she ran to her lover. I had to follow her with Quinn next to me. We reached where the Vampyre girl lead us. A black creature seething black smoke stood and had The Vampyre King by the throat. “Let him go!” Anika screamed. She charged after it, it let go of Matthew and in a puff of smoke disappeared, then reappeared when Anika stumbled on to her bed. “I do not know you.” It came closer to her. I opened my wings and flew in between it and my little girl. “Dragons? How odd.” It looked around the room, battle ready lords and ladies with their elements in their hands, Adam had shifted into his wolf. “Odd indeed. Vampyres, Werewolves and Dragons working together?” Before it could get another word out, Matthew had struck its back with a dagger. It cried out in pain before falling to the floor. The smoke slowly ascending to the ceiling as the body died. “It will be back.” Matthew stated. “Bastian. I… Am… Coming.” The smoke said as it continued rising in the air. When the last of it was gone, I looked to Matthew. “Before you ask, thank you. I know everyone in this room wonders what that was. We call it The Crawler. I have killed it many times. We have at best 6 days before it respawns. And then…” He looked to Anika. “He intends to tell Bastian of my location.” She looked back and forth between everyone. “What does that me? That Bastian is coming here?” “No. I am leaving.” Even I couldn’t deny that his presence here would be terrible if he stayed. Anika kept looking into him, hoping to see some sort of joke or hint that he wasn’t serious about his plan. “N-No. We’ll figure this out. We always have.” I see the love that he has for her as he hugged her. He closed his eyes and just held her as she cried. “It’s the safest for you, My Queen. Once he tells Bastian he found me, both will stop at nothing to hunt me to get to you.” I had some ping of guilt rising in my stomach. Out of the three, Matthew was the more respected. Doing this for the safety of my baby girl had me both re-acquitted with sorrow and respect. I placed a hand on his shoulder. “This is going to be hard on you both.” I said, “Are you sure?” I needed to know. If he truly loved her, he would do anything to protect her. He nodded in response. “I respect that. In 6 months, I need you to return, however.” He gave me a curious look. “By then, both should be off your tail.” “That part I understand, but why the ‘Need.’” I smiled at him. A smile I rarely show. “For her.” I rubbed her back. “After all, a challenge is still going on. This little hiccup in the flight is just that.” Looking into his eyes, “Promise her.” I held out my hand. And in a brother at arms fashion, we grabbed each other’s arms. “Anika, I promise that I will return.” We all witness The Vampyre king leave my castle alone. His servant stayed and cradled Anika as she cried in her arms. If I wasn’t so harsh on the man, I would have approved of him.
