9. You don’t choose your friends or your family

I could tell Koran was furious by the way he walked. Long, smooth, fast strides forced me to almost run after him. He stopped only to open the door with a violent kick on the wooden panel. “Come in!” he roared. I reluctantly obeyed. A two-room apartment with the bare minimum. Bed, table, chair... amenities. The teenager looked at me. As if it was I who asked him to bite me twice! “Don’t you dare vent on me, Koran!” I warned by pointing an index in his direction. His eyelids narrowed, and then, instead of exploding for the umpteenth time, he let out a long, shaky sigh before sitting on the edge of his bed. “Well. Are you going to explain to me what just happened with your father?” “Puppy... There’s something you need to know.” Frankly, I expected the worst after this sentence. “We are all... a little older than you.” “Can you elaborate?” Koran looked up at me, his face both weary and amused. “After our three mutations... our ageing no longer follows its normal course. It’s very slow.” “How much slower?” He plunged his cocoa gaze, both sweet and bitter, into mine. “I’m going to be twenty-five and not the eighteen of my physical appearance.” Huh?! It’s sheer madness. Yet another abnormal thing. I was going to end up crazy at this rate. “Who else is going to be this... this age? Erwan?” Koran nodded. Okay. Okay. Calm down. “Gina? Ulrich? All... those at our school who seem to be my age?” The blond giant just nodded his chin again. “That’s not the worst... Beth.” Would it shock many people if I had a great hysteria attack, with throwing plates as a bonus? “My... first bite was legitimate. In the gym. Me or another Alpha, you wouldn’t have escaped it... but, the second bite at your home...” “The second one at my house was an extra that you gave yourself?” I saw his Adam’s apple playing yo-yo while he swallowed. “In a way, yes... You’re the first I’ve marked to assert my position of dominance towards a female. With Gina, it was a s****l game, we were already in the middle of it... no need to draw you a picture.” My eyes widened in amazement. “Wait, you’re telling me that biting me to show me who’s boss, you got a kick out of it, so you took advantage of the situation just to get high again? Am I right ?” Koran turned his head, and suddenly the wall to his left fascinated him. “Something like that... The problem is that my father knows. And he’s not happy that I got carried away.” “I'm not either, to tell you the truth.” Koran laughed. “Puppy, my views differ from my father's on the issue. You have no importance in his eyes. To punish me and test me, he just put you in my room tonight.” My blood flowed backwards. I was afraid to understand. “Tell me,” I whispered. The blond giant rolled up his upper lip in a cruel smile. “Know that, if we mark the same meta three times, we officially declare them as our companion to the whole pack. You can imagine that my father doesn’t want me to choose a bastard for a future Alpha female of the first branch.” I received the equivalent of a slap. This is how the members of this damn wolf pack looked at me: a dirty half-breed offspring that wasn’t even worth biting! Laughable isn’t it? My life is now reduced to this. Koran stood up, clenching his fists. Was he going to punch me to let off steam by finding himself in this mess? I had to take a lot on myself not to back off. And cause the dreaded third bite. “So, our Brunan, which means Alpha in our dialect, found it appropriate to confine us both during the second full moon night. When you know that I’ve already marked you twice and that my beast will be more than tempted to screw you or even bite you... this night may be extremely long. Either I transform and I take the risk of eating you. Or I don’t and what’s below my belt takes control. And my father would rather strangle you with his bare hands than let you become my partner. Do we choose heads or tails?” mocked Koran in an angry voice. Everything I had swallowed decided to come to the surface. The teenager—or pseudo-teenager—realized it and grabbed me by the arm to take me to the toilet. To bring up all the meat that Erwan had kindly cooked for me. Once empty, my stomach calmed down slightly. The Alpha was forcing his son to kill me. Yes, my life was worthless to them. I was going to wipe myself with the back of my hand when Koran put a towel under my nose. “You aren't attracted to me. You said it yourself: you don’t love me. So keep your human form. I’m sure you won’t jump on me,” I said, closing my eyes. It was Koran’s silence that prompted me to reopen them and look up at him. His dark expression didn’t reassure me anymore. “Why don’t you say something? What now?” “I’m only a male under the effect of the moon.” I waved my hands in the air. “Call Gina! I’ll sit quietly in your bathroom while you... you...” My fingers were spinning now. Koran smiled. “Madame is too generous,” he whispered. “My selflessness is matched only by my desire to save my skin,” I grumbled, getting up.
