After a moment, as Dinka ran, Marian spoke again. “Why did you go there, D.?” Marian asked gently. Marian knew why, of course, but the prospect of seeing Dax or Bentax should have been more dissuasive than the need to get near Reyland; she did not understand why her wolf had taken such a risk to go so close to Reyland’s home. Dinka did not respond. Marian waited. Dinka stopped and sniffed the air. Something was off. They were at the very edge of their territory. A lesser-used area. There were guards all around the Lightmoon territory, but today was a special day, and things could be overlooked, especially such distant, barely used areas. Dinka stilled herself as her hackles rose. A deep growl started in her chest. In seconds, three shifters, in wolf mode, appeared behind Dinka.
