Kathryn's Point of View
My eyes slowly open, and I blink against the low light, trying to get my eyes used to the lighting of the room. I stare up at the white ceiling, feeling confused and disoriented. I hear a beeping sound coming from next to me and I frown.
Where on earth am I? What happened?
I try to move, to sit up, but pain flares through my abdomen and a quiet hiss slips past my lips.
“Hey, hey, easy there, baby. You’re okay. You’re okay.”
Elijah is suddenly there, rising from a chair beside the bed I didn't see. His eyes are red, and his voice trembles slightly, but he’s smiling at me as he gently pushes me back down onto the bed.
I turn my head slowly towards him.
“Elijah?”
I ask, my voice hoarse, my throat feeling scratchy.
“I’m here.”
He says.
