Chapter 81

1025 Words

Marcus's Point of View The tires crunch over the loose gravel as I pull off the old service road. The woods here are denser, quieter. The kind of place you could scream your lungs out and no one would hear you. Rachel hasn’t said a word to me since I told her the truth of why I came for her. She has been staring out of the passenger window like the world has betrayed her. Maybe it did. But I’m not here to patch her up. I’m here to finish the job that Elijah was too soft to do himself. I bring the car to a stop near the rusty gate and kill the engine. “You’re not taking me home.” She says quietly and I shake my head. “No. I’m not.” I say flatly, and she turns to face me, her eyes rimmed red but dry. There is something in her expression now, rage simmering just below the surface.
