I Might Have Found My Mate

Her mouth twitched to the side thoughtfully. She gave a little twirl and the white silken dress flowed in a swift motion. A thin linen silver belt clung onto her waist to match the silver embroidery at the hem and sleeves of the dress. "Oh my goodness! Selene!" "You look gorgeous!" Farah exclaimed as she walked into the room. A little more extravagant than usual, a green dress with golden embroidery clung onto her body. Selene could hear Lorelei's excited howls as well. Her silver-white hair was let loose over her shoulders and, according to Lorelei, the dress caused her deep gray eyes to sparkle. For the first time in a while, Selene felt a strange spark inside of her that caused her stomach to knot. Excitement. She didn't believe she could feel excited to be stepping out of her dark corner. "Why didn't you wear this before?" Farah questioned, her hands firm on her hips. Selene's mouth formed into a sad smile. "My parents bought this for me on my eighteenth birthday." Farah shared the same sad smile as her friend. "You look very beautiful. They must be gawking at you right now, not expecting it to be such a perfect fit." Selene chuckled softly. With a sigh, she proclaimed. "I'm ready." *** The festive periods were always a good time in Elrond Field. The people could forget their worries and dance and drink through the night. The summer full moon ball was always something worth celebrating. The village knew more of winter than any other season, which sometimes led to famine. Yet Elrond field was the warmest and most fruitful amongst the neighboring villages. People ate, drank and danced till they dropped. Selene smiled at some other villagers and ate the little her stomach would allow. It felt good to be out with the world again. Her people from the Silver-wood pack, few as they may have been, felt more comfortable around them, but all the wolves from her pack were busy having conversations and meddling with other wolves from the dark moon pack. Walking into an inn to avoid the loud music-- several werewolves scattered about the tables, eating and drinking and talking with friends or their mates or family-- Selene spotted her best friend, who had suddenly disappeared from the dancing floor standing with a handsome young man. She had only seen him once-- when she and the other few surviving wolves of the Silver-wood pack were taken in-- but she recognized him to be the beta of the Dark Moon pack. Beta Leoric. He was young and handsome with a shade of dirty blonde hair and serene experienced brown eyes. Dressed in a wool of gray and a black belt fastened around his waist. Farah snickered and blushed from time to time during their unheard conversations and Selene didn't need anyone to tell her that her best friend had found her mate. Or at least she speculated about it. A bud of jealousy sprouted inside her, but it was overwhelmed by happiness. She was always supportive of her friend no matter what. Not too far from the snickering lovers sat a handsome man. Young he was, but his light blue eyes were ever knowing and the way he was positioned was like that of a skilled fighter. He wasn't on a battlefield and though he was simply sitting, one could tell apart a skilled werewolf from a wolf with no skill at all. His full curly brown hair ran down his shoulders and his expressionless face was neat and attractive. His firm hands gripped a mug of beer that never seemed to reach his mouth. Even with his good looks, he sat lonely at a table and Selene found herself wondering why. A man of his looks should be crowded by girls and women. But he sat alone, too close to the fireplace. Seemingly drowned in his thoughts. His eyes smoldered, and his thick brows slightly furrowed, but it wasn't that of a frown. Selene couldn't help but to feel charmed by his looks. His broad shoulders and strong thighs. Snapped out of her thoughts, she noticed Farah and the beta getting to their feet and making their way out of the place. She couldn't help but to overhear the beta's joyful words as they passed by her. "You couldn't comprehend how happy I feel right now even if I drowned you in an explanation. I always thought I'd be single forever, but who knew that my mate was just in another pack! Who knew..." Farah flashed her friend a grin and Selene responded with a smile and whispered, "Congratulations." The bud of jealousy returned for more than a second this time. Beta Leoric was very lucky to have a cheery spirit like Farah for a mate and Selene was very happy for him, but knowing that such luck could never find its way to her made her a little sad. But only a little. She hadn't been expecting a miraculous thing to happen herself. Her eyes wandered back to the lone wolf the moment the door closed behind Farah and Beta Leoric, and she realized he had only been there because of them. Set on leaving, he dropped his still-full mug of beer on a table and started for the door, but then their eyes met. Selene felt pinned to the spot as his cold blue eyes gazed at her, and it didn't make things any easier when he started towards her. "Hi." His deep voice filled her ears. She managed a calm smile. "Hi." It was all she could respond to as well. "I am alpha Warrick of the Dark Moon Pack." The first time I saw you around, you must have been from a silver wooden pack. "May I meet you?" His tone was gentle to match the expression on his face. "Selene and yes, I am from Silver-wood pack." She didn't understand why, but a nervous feeling had begun to grow inside her and Lorelei didn't seem to be helping. Lorelei filled her with excitement and anxiety. "Pleasure to meet you Selene." He smiled, a soft smile that touched his eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but her words stuck in her throat. Lorelei's excitement finally translated to words, and they were words she didn't believe, no matter how much her silver wolf insisted. "Our mate! I think it's him! I can feel him, Selene! We may have found our mate!" Selene turned red in an instant. She had thought her mixed-up feelings were because of how alpha Warrick had charmed her with his looks, but it wasn't. It was far from that. She refused to believe... 'Alpha Warrick could be my... Mate?'
